Show August 4, 1918 Dear Dad: Sunday and a wonderful day in Alsace Lorraine and with mountains which remind one of ours at home, good health and good news. The Frenchmen just told us of the advance on a fifty kilometer front to a depth of ten miles on our old stomping grounds, for war, not bad, what! No doubt that Dutch has told you that I am now Sergeant and am no longer driving an ambulance. I have to do some office work in conjunction with making reliefs at posts, seeing cars are in shape and such. Had an American band give us a concert the other evening and tomorrow take quite a trip tomorrow, going to the park for parts and to a commissary depot for food. Have at present, plenty of everything that one needs to get along with and of course more money on account of my promotion. The government has given an order that we are to send $15 allotment, no more or less. Had to send half pay before and the govt gave no more than they do now.
