And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. But he that received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoned with them. And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, | have gained beside them five more talents. His lord said unto him, well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, | will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, | have gained two other talents beside them. His lord said unto him, well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, | will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the Joy of thy lord. Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, | knew thee that thou are an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou has not strawed: And| was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. His lord answered and said unto him, thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that | reap where | sowed not, and gather where | have not strawed: Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming | should have received mine own with usury. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. (All Together) And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ‘“We’ll Understand It Better By and By” VERSE I: We were often tossed and driven on the restless sea of time; Sombre skies and howling tempests oft succeed a bright sunshine; In that land of perfect day, when the mists have rolled away, we will understand it better by and by. CHORUS: By and by when the morning comes, when the saints of God are gathered home; We'll tell the story how we've overcome, for we'll understand it better by and by. VERSE 2: We are often destitute of the things that life demands; Want of food and want of shelter — thirsty hills and barren lands; We are trusting in the Lord, and according to His word, we will understand it better by and by. And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and Stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto Him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written, the Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And He closed the book, and He gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on Him. And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And His fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto Him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those that had the palsy; and He healed them. (All Together) And there followed Him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond Jordan. “Standing on the Promises”’ VERSE I: Standing on the promises of Christ my King, thro’ eternal ages let His praises ring; Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing; Standing on the promises of God. CHORUS: Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God, my Saviour; Standing, standing, I am standing on the promises of God. VERSE 2: Standing on the promises that cannot fail, when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail; By the living Word of God I shall prevail; Standing on the promises of God. CHORUS: Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God, my Saviour; Standing, standing, I am standing on the promises of God. VERSE 3: Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord, bound to Him eternally by love’s strong chord; Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword; Standing on the promises of God. CHORUS: Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God, my Saviour; Standing, standing, I am standing on the promises of God. Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound. For thou, Lord, has made me glad through Thy work: | will triumph in the works of Thy hands. O Lord, how great are Thy works! and Thy thoughts are very deep. O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In His hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is His also. The sea is His, and He made it: and His hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker. For He is our God; and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Today if ye will hear His voice. He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way. Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families life a flock. (All Together) The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth. Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they Shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord. VMS VERSE Sil 1: When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed, When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost; Count your many blessings — name them one by one; And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done. CHORUS: Count your blessings, name them one by one; Count your blessings, see what God hath done; Count your blessings, name them one by one; Count your many blessings, see what God hath done. VERSE 2: Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear? Count your many blessings — every doubt will fly; And you will be singing as the days go by. CHORUS: Count your blessings, name them one by one; Count your blessings, see what God hath done; Count your blessings, name them one by one; Count your many blessings, see what God hath done. VERSE 3: When you look at others with their lands and gold, Think that Christ has promised you wealth untold; Count your many blessings — money cannot buy; Your reward in heaven nor your home on high. CHORUS: Count your blessings, name them one by one; Count your blessings, see what God hath done; Count your blessings, name them one by one; Count your many blessings, see what God hath done. Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound. For thou, Lord, has made me glad through Thy work; | will tiumph in the works of Thy hands.
