The Church Covenant ~ Ha ving been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, And on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, We do now, in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ. We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love, to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain to worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrine: To contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations. We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements and exemplary in our deportment; To avoid all tattling, backbiting and excessive anger. To abstain from the sale and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior. We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; To remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; To be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rule of our Savior to secure it without delay. (All Together) We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word. Cancellation of Mission & Laymen Meetings Due to the Community Town Meeting being held here at New Zion of Tuesday, July 12", the Mission and Laymen’s weekly meetings have been cancelled. They will resume at their regular dates and times on the Tuesday, July 19". Christian Maturity (Luke 2:51-52; Col 1:9-10; 2:6-7 & 9-10; 2 Timothy 3:14-17 & Ephesians 4:12-13) Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. His mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in years, and in divine and human favor. For this reason, since the day we heard it, we have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of Goa’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. So that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God. As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, Just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. For in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have come to fullness in Him, who is the head of every ruler and authority. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you have learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is inspired by God and us useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. (All Together) To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. “Victory in Jesus” VERSE 1: I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came glory; How He gave His life on Calvary to save a wretch like me; I heard about His groaning, of His precious blood’s atoning; Then I repented of my sins and won the victory. CHORUS: O victory in Jesus, my Savior, forever! He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood; He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him; He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood. VERSE 2: I heard about His healing, of His cleansing power revealing; How He made the lame to walk again and caused the blind to see; And then I cried, “Dear Jesus, come and heal my broken spirit;”» And some how Jesus came and brought to me the victory. CHORUS: O victory in Jesus, my Savior, forever! He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood; He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him; He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood. VERSE 3: I heard about a mansion, He has built for me in glory; And I heard about the streets of gold beyond the crystal sea; About the angels singing and the old redemption story; And some sweet day I'll sing up there the song of victory. CHORUS: O victory in Jesus, my Savior, forever! He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood; He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him; He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body — Jews or Greeks, slaves or free — and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many. As it is, there are many members, yet on body. If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder | laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Each builder must choose with care how to build on it. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. (All Together) In Him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built together Spiritually into a dwelling place for God. Sis. Martha Luke Chairperson, Sunshine Committee “TI Am on the Battlefield” for My Lord” VERSE 1: I was alone and idle, I was a sinner too, I heard a voice from heaven say there is work to do; I took my Master’s hand, and I joined the Christian band; I’m on the battlefield for my Lord. CHORUS: I am on the battlefield for my Lord, I’m on the battlefield for my Lord; I promised Him that I would serve Him till I die; I’m on the battlefield for my Lord. VERSE 2: I left my friends and kindred bound for the Promised Land, the grace of God upon me, the Bible in my hand; In distant lands I trod, crying sinner come to God; I’m on the battlefield for my Lord. CHORUS: I am on the battlefield for my Lord, I’m on the battlefield for my Lord; I promised Him that I would serve Him till I die; I’m on the battlefield for my Lord. VERSE 3: Now when I met my Savior, I met Him with a smile, He healed my wounded spirit, and owned me as His child; around the throne of grace, He appoints my soul a place; I’m on the battlefield for my Lord. Derrel Hughes Christian Unity (Psalm 133; I Corinthians 12:12-20, 25-27) Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the Skirts of his garments. As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing even life for evermore. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because | am not the hand, | am not of the body; it is therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because | am not the eye, | am not of the body; it is therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it has pleased Him. And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body. There should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it. (All Together) Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. VERSE 1: Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, that calls me from a world of care; And bids me at my Father’s throne, make all my wants and wishes known. CHORUS: In seasons of distress and grief, my soul has often found relief; And oft escaped the tempter’s snare, by thy return, sweet hour of prayer. VERSE 2: Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, thy wings shall my petition bear; To Him whose truth and faithfulness, engage the waiting soul to bless. CHORUS: And since He bids me seek His face, believe His Word and trust His grace; I'll cast on Him my every care, and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer. VERSE 3: Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, may I thy consolation share; Till from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height, I view my home and take my flight. CHORUS: This robe of flesh I'll drop and rise, to seize the everlasting prize; And shout while passing through the air, “Fare-well, fare-well, sweet hour of prayer.” Thought for the Day... “Some will hate you, some will love you; Some will flatter, some will slight; Cease from man, and look above you; Trust in God and do the right!” New Zion Baptist Church rH 2935 Lincoln Avenue * Ogden, Utah 844018 ( StF’ Membership Special Events Form Rev. Sis. Martha Luke Chairperson, Sunshine Committee “Sweet Hour of Prayer” © VERSE I: Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, that calls me from a world of care; And bids me at my Father’s throne, make all my wants and wishes known. What might a job description for a “woman” look like if it appeared in a local newspaper today? Wanted: listener, A creative and patient woman fashion consultant, decorator, to be a cook, chaplain, good recreation expert, teacher, chauffeur, psychologist, nurse, artist, gardener, economist, entertainer, communication advisor, purchasing agent, lawyer, and accountant. No pay, but excellent benefits! Another job description of a woman is found in Proverbs 31, which points out both character qualities and actions of the woman it portrays. It’s impossible for any of us to live up to the example of this woman (or composite of women), but the chapter definitely gives us principles to inspire us. Today’s women are encouraged to be: e Merciful to the poor. This godly woman ¢ e e e doesn’t shrink from helping others. — Observant. Verse 27 informs us that this godly woman watches carefully all that goes on throughout her household. Trustworthy. This godly woman’s family and church can rely on her character and integrity. Helpful. This godly woman opens her hands to the well Energetic. This godly woman plants her own garden; she a her own bedspread. — | Reverent toward God. This godly woman honors, obeys, and spends time with God. e e Wise. This godly woman gives instructions with kindness. Dignified. This godly woman is worthy of respect because her commitment to God lies at the foundation of everything she does. | My goodness, this woman is worth so much that it’s hard to put a price tag on her! Don’t be intimidated by this woman...be inspired! With God’s help, each woman can be a treasure to her family, church, and community. “Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” (Proverbs 31:31 - NIV) New Zion Baptist Church Annual Deaconess Women’s Day Celebration Sunday, August 14, 2005 «« 3:30 p.m. Theme: “Women Having Confidence e Joy of Faith Through Christ” (Philippians 1:25) “And having this confidence, I Know that I shall abide and continue with youall | for your furtherance and joy of faith.” NEW ZION BAPTIST CHURCH 2935 Lincoln Avenue es Ogden, Utah “The Church Built By Faith” 84401 Reverend Derrel A. (Luke 2:51-52; Col 1:9-10; 2:6-7 & 9-10; 2 Timothy 3:14-17 & Ephesians 4: 12-13) — Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. His mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in years, and in divine and human favor. For this reason, since the day we heard it, we have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. (All Together) To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full Stature of Christ. VERSE 2: Some folk may doubt, some folk may scorn, all can desert and leave me alone; But as for me I’ll take God’s part; For God is real and I can feel Him in my heart. CHORUS: Yes, God is real, real in my soul; Yes, God is real for He has washed and made me whole; His love for me, is like pure gold; Yes, God is real for I can feel Him in my soul. QD The Family (Deuteronomy 6:4-7; Proverbs 23:12-13, Proverbs 15 & Qe 22:6; Isaiah 54:4-8) Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that | am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Apply your mind to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge. not withhold discipline from your children. Do My child, if your heart is wise, my heart too will be glad. Train children in the right way, and when old, they shall not stray. Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; do not be discouraged, for you will not suffer disgrace. For you will forget the same of your youth, and the disgrace of your widowhood you will remember no more. For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of Hosts is His name; the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth He is called. For the Lord has called you like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, like the wife of a man’s youth when she is cast off, says your God. For a brief moment | abandoned you, but with great compassion | will gather you. (All Together) In overflowing wrath for a moment | hid My face from you, but with everlasting love | will have compassion on you, says the Lord, your Redeemer. PS Jk “O How I Love Jesus” Sis.
