We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love, to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge and holiness; to give it a place in our affections, prayers and services above every organization of human origin; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrine; to contribute cheerfully and regularly, as God has prospered us, towards its expenses, for the support of a faithful and evangelical ministry among us, the relief of the poor and the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. In case of difference of opinion in the church, we will strive to avoid a contentious spirit, and if we cannot unanimously agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the majority to govern. We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to study diligently the word of God; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be kind and just to those in our employ, and faithful in the service we promise others; endeavoring in the purity of heart and good will towards all men to exemplify and commend our holy faith. We further engage to watch over, to pray for, to exhort and stir up each other unto every good word and work; to guard each other's reputation, not needlessly exposing the infirmities of others; to participate in each other's joys, and with tender sympathy bear one another's burdens and sorrows; to cultivate Christian courtesy; to be Slow to give or take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, being mindful of the rules of the Savior in the eighteenth chapter of Matthew, to secure it without delay; and through life, amid evil report, and good report, to seek to live to the glory of God, who has called us out of darkness into his marvelous light. When we remove from this place, we engage as soon as possible to unite with some other church, where we can carry. out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word. hat, dress, etc. A special presentation will be done to enhance awareness and men of all ages are encouraged to be screened. VERSE 14: As He walked along, He saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow Me and be My disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Levi got up and followed Him. VERSE 15: Later, Levi invited Jesus and His disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. (There were many people of this kind among Jesus’ followers.) VERSE 16: But when the teachers of religious law who were Pharisees saw Him eating with tax collectors and other sinners, they asked His disciples, “Why does He eat with such scum?” VERSE 17: When Jesus heard this, He told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor — sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” ha (Romans 5:1-11; 8:1-2, 30) Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Ant not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received atonement. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. (AN Together) Moreover whom He did predestined, them He also called: and whom He called, them He also justified: and whom He justified, them He also glorified. — IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 10, 2013 Deaconess Ministry Meeting There will be a_ brief Deaconess Ministry : meeting immediately following today’s worship service. — All deaconess are encouraged to remain after service. As they experience the difficult task of becoming adults, guide them in the pursuit of faith, identity, and purpose. Above all, may they come to know you and love you with their hearts, minds and souls. Let them know that You are always with them, helping them fulfill the plan, which You have designed for their lives. May they keep Your commandments, and search out Your will. Wherever life takes them, may they never cease fo praise You, to pray, and to study Your Holy Word. God, save them from negative self images, from feelings of hopelessness, and from peer pressure that contradicts the values their families and churches have instilled in them. As Jesus increased in wisdom and favor, grant that young people may also attain spiritual and human maturity. May they understand the responsibility and sensitivity necessary to become a friend, a leader, a spouse, and a parent. Lord, give them role models and mentors. Grant them spiritual immunity from the brokenness and meanness of life. Help them to develop good relationships with others. May they acquire knowledge of their ancestry, master contemporary life Skills, and understand the multicultural dimensions of our world. May they begin the adult journey by remembering the history of their people. May they travel with confidence. May they value education and see themselves as an important part of their nation. Point 3: Give all the glory to God. 13 The Church Covenant @ Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior; and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now, in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ. When we remove from this place, we engage as soon as possible to unite with some other church, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word. The Watch History of Night Service Many of you who live or grew up in Black communities in the United States have probably heard of "Watch Night Services," the gathering of the faithful in church on New Year's Eve. The service usually begins anywhere from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and ends at midnight with the entrance of the New Year. Some people come to church first, before going out to celebrate. For others, church is the only New Year's Eve event. Tuesday, December 31, 2013 = 10:00 p.m. Many of us have routinely assumed that Watch Night was a fairly standard Christian religious service -- made a bit more Afro centric because that's what happens when elements of Christianity become linked with the Black Church. Still, it seemed that predominately White Christian churches did not include Watch Night services on their calendars, but focused instead on Christmas Eve programs. In fact, there were instances where clergy in mainline denominations wondered aloud about the propriety of linking religious services with a secular holiday like New Year's Eve. However, there is a reason for the importance of New Year's Eve services in African American congregations. The Watch Night Services in Black communities that we celebrate today can be traced back to gatherings on December 31, 1862, also known as "Freedom's Eve." On that night, Blacks came together in churches and private homes all across the nation, anxiously awaiting news that the Emancipation Proclamation actually had become law. Then, at the stroke of midnight, it was January 1, 1863, and all slaves in the Confederate States were declared legally free. When the news was received, there were prayers, shouts and songs of joy as people fell to their knees and thanked God. Black people have gathered in churches annually on New Year's Eve ever since, praising and thanking God for bringing us safely through another year. It's been 150 years since that first Freedom's Eve but tradition still brings us together at this time every year to praise God and celebrate "how we got over." It's important to educate more of our family and African American event and Christian tradition! friends about our historical “A Ministry Where Everyone Counts” Ephesians 44 Whtely Neale Leader: INVOCATION ~ MINSTER O God, as was customary of our parents and ancestors, we come to this Watch Night vigil to be with You, in Your house, as we usher out the old year and welcome the dawning of a new year.
