No transfers will be approved after the first day of class. UNLESS THE ABOVE OUTLINED PROCEDURE FOR MAKING TRANSFERS IS FAITHFULLY OBSERVED, IT WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO GIVE PROPER CREDIT TO STUDENTS WHO TRANSFER FROM ONE CLASS TO ANOTHER. \ 6 National Baptist Congress of Christian Education MORNING COURSE OFFERINGS Courses of the Standard Leadership Curriculum, coordinated in the Na- tional Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc. through the Sunday School Publishing Board are offered. This will permit persons who also take courses in State and District Congresses, Institutes, and other Leadership Training Schools, to continue their work in the same general training program. Courses are grouped into 12 (twelve) Divisions as follow: General Division, Bible Division, History and Basic Studies Division, Adult Leaders Division, Administrative Leaders Division, Sunday School and B:T.U. Administrator’s Division, Fine Arts Division, Children’s Leader’s Division, Young People’s Leader’s Division (Age 21 and Over), Youth Division (Age 13-22), Special Projects Division and Advanced Studies Division. All courses will be offered in the mornings only—Tuesday through Friday. Because the standard for class attendance is ten hours, plus attendance in the Afternoon Seminars, it 1s important that delegates to the Congress prepare to remain at the Congress through Friday in order to secure credit for the course. AFTERNOON SEMINARS The Congress program offers Seminars each afternoon, Tuesday through Friday. Each delegate who is assigned to a course in the mornings is simultaneously assigned to the same Division for the Afternoon Seminars. The purpose of the Afternoon Seminars is to relate the general emphases of the Congress to the work which the delegates do in their churches, and to enhance their perspective and overview the Church’s educational program. For this purpose, the Resource Book and the Study Guide specially prepared for the Congress are basic. In addition, discussion material will be culled from the Dean’s Keynote Address, the President’s Address, and the General Lectures in the morning General Assemblies. Each delegate is to report to his Division Assembly in the afternoon, where there will be a general presentation which will draw together the salient material from the morning general assemblies, the resource material, and the interests of the persons enrolled in the respective Divisions. Following this brief general presentation, delegates will be assigned to smaller groups for further discussion of the materials. ADMISSION TO CLASSES Each delegate is required to submit a classification slip to the instructor upon entering a class. The slip may be secured from the Classification Committee on presentation of a receipt issued by the Finance and Enrollment Committee. Admission to each class is limited by space available or by the character of the course offered. | TEXTBOOKS Textbooks may be purchased from a special Congress Bookstore set up near National Baptist Congress of Christian Education 7 the registration area. No textbook will be accredited that does NOT appear on the Dean’s Official List or that has not been certified in the Dean’s Office. NO SELLING OF TEXTBOOKS OR OTHER MATERIAL WILL BE PERMITTED IN CLASSROOMS EXCEPT BY SPECIAL PERMISSION FROM THE DEAN. SPECIAL PROJECTS DIVISION The Special Projects Division offers work in three categories. They are: Category I Projects which require a particular interest of skill, but with no other prerequisites and with no additional enrollment fee aside from the regular registration fee. THE ENROLLMENT COMMITTEE WILL ENROLL THESE STUDENTS WITHOUT REFERRAL TO THE DEAN’S OFFICE. It is designed to offer information and inspiration to ministers. Two General Seminars, one each in the mornings and afternoons, enable the speakers to relate to all of the persons in the Division. Several smaller Seminars enable the ministers to deal with specific issues related to the work of the church and the minister. There is no prerequisite for enrolling in the Pastors’ Division, although there are many ministers who choose to enroll in other courses in the Congress. Because of the nature of the Pastors’ Division, there is no terminus or final standard for “completion” of the work. Persons who desire credit may apply for them, with credits awarded based on participation in one of the smaller Seminar Groups. The ministers voluntarily contribute a fee which is helpful to the Congress. MINISTERS’ WIVES DIVISION This Division appeals primarily to Ministers’ Wives and Widows who have recognized needs related to their particular position in the Church. The program consists of two major study emphases or “classes?’ held in the mornings, and related to the specific or general interests of ministers’ wives. In the afternoon, two Discussion Groups relate to the general themes of the Congress. Participation in the Ministers’ Wives Division is encouraged for those persons whose needs are in line with the objectives of the Division. Other persons may enroll in the regular Congress courses. There is no “terminus” for the work of this Division, as the emphases may change from year to year. Credit cards will be issued to those who seek them, based on participation in a morning class and an afternoon discussion group. National Baptist Congress of Christian Education 9 Category II CONTEMPORARY MINISTRIES WORKSHOP The discussions in this project will be especially useful to those who contemplate a religious vocation of any type, and not necessarily the pastorate. That would include work in city missions, campus ministries, directors of religious education, teaching, specialized chaplaincies, and the pastorate. After completing four years in this workshop students may bring their course cards to the Dean’s Office and apply for the Advanced Certificate. This should be done by Wednesday of the Congress. YOUTH RALLY Participation in the Annual Youth Rally to be held on Friday is to include all young people between the ages of 12 and 22. All participants who register for courses will follow the same procedures as other delegates. They will receive a Youth Rally Badge from the Registration Committee. Participants are required to register with $6.00, which qualifies them for participation in the Youth Rally and entitles them to a Youth Badge. Song Sheets, and a copy of the Pageant, can be purchased for $1.00 each. Delegates who enroll in the Youth Rally will attend morning classes to which they are assigned. In the afternoon they will participate in the Youth Rally rehearsals instead of a discussion group. ORGANIZING AND MAINTAINING A CHURCH MEDIA CENTER LIBRARY/ This workshop is open to all persons interested in starting a library or improving the services of such a library already in existence. After completing four years in this workshop students may bring their course cards to the Dean’s Office and apply for the Advanced Certificate. This should be done by Wednesday of the Congress. THE LUCIE E. CAMPBELL WORKSHOP ON CHURCH MUSIC This project is open to choir directors, church musicians, choir officers and all who are interested in the presentation of good church music. This should be done by Wednesday of the Congress. 10 National Baptist Congress of Christian Education INTRODUCTION TO SIGN LANGUAGE/ORGANIZING A MINISTRY TO THE DEAF Open to persons who have an interest in ministering to the deaf and hard of hearing. This project will provide the fundamentals of sign language and also deal with ways to organize a ministry to the deaf in the local church. After completing four years in this workshop students may bring their course cards to the Dean’s Office and apply for the Advanced Certifi cate. This should be done by Wednesday of the Congress: WORKSHOP FOR CHURCH SECRETARIES AND CLERKS This is a four-year program which seeks to upgrade church secretaries and clerks in many of the skills of church administration. The project is designed for people who have the basic skills of office work, but have limited experience in or knowledge of the church office. There will be demonstrations of the use of office machines other than the typewriter and the advantages they open up to churches. Also, there will be discussions of the peculiar demands of a congregation upon the church secretary and/or clerk. To help offset the additional administrative cost, a fee of $10.00 will be required to enroll in the Church Secretaries and Clerks Workshop. After completing four years in this workshop students may bring their course cards to the Dean’s Office and apply for the Advanced Certificate. This should be done by Wednesday of the Congress. CHILDREN’S RALLY A Children’s Rally will be held each day from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Children ages 6-12 are invited to participate. A fee of $4.00 will be charged. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing. Love suffereth long, and love envieth not; love itself, is not puffed up, is kind; vaunteth not Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Love there be never faileth: prophecies, but they whether shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. When? Day And for what purpose? At some tirne in life we feel a trembling, fearful longing to do seine good thing, something different and helpful io some good cause. It was just such an impulse and urge that led Mis. Nanpie Burrougas to think of what a specia! day--dedicated to a great cause--could do for church women. Women's Day was proposed by Mrs. Burroughs, the veung correspondiig secretary of the Women’s Converton, at the meeting cf the conveniion in Memphis, Tennessee, in September 19086. The preposal was that the Fourth Suiday in July be Known as Nationa! Women’s Day. This day was not thought up as a scheme for raisitig money, but a Christian school for raising women To quote from her fetter, “A miilion women werking, a million women singing, a million women laboring for the coming of the kingdom in the hearts of all men. would be a powers that would move God on his throne to answer, immediately, their petitions !t would mean spiritual dynamtie that would blast Satan’s greatest strongholds °" As a result of Mrs Burroughs’ idea, many women have discovered that given the opportunity to develop, they can be great tools in Christian service They have learned to speak, present good christian ideas, depict courage, fidelity and grace, and are more and more becoming great spokeswomen for the Lord Mrs Burroughs intended for women to do what the woiman did who She "went to town" and brought the talked with Jesus at the well town out to "see Jesus " The Women’s Day idea was accepted and So, God be with you, women, on continues in full bloom today Women's Day Sister Bertha Carter, Chairperson PROGRAM OF THE 76TH ANNUAL SESSION OF :-THE INTERMOUNTAIN GENERAL BAPTIST ASSOCIATION OF CHURCHES INCORPORATED AUGUST GENERAL THEME: "Let Everything Be Done Decenitly and In Order’ -1 Cor. 14 40 Host Church: Rev 10-14, 1993 Dr New Zion Baptist Church 2935 Lincoln Avenue Ogden, Utah 84401 France A.
