I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” We, here at New Zion Baptist Church, have been blessed of God to have an Ushers Ministry that graciously serves and reflects the following ... U = Unwavering in their commitment to serve the Lord as they labor here in the vineyard at New Zion. S = Seeking always to grow daily in their walk with God for they are fully persuaded that it is impossible to express and share the love of God without spending quality time with God. H = Having a heart for God's people, they are continually aware that the value and blessing of a smile, a friendly “hello and glad to see you” can be just what a worshiper needs to prepare their spirits to hear from God. iD = Enthusiastically and patiently assisting each worshiper to their seat in the sanctuary knowing that to come into the presence of the Lord can strengthen, restore and anchor them for what lies ahead as they depart to face the vicissitudes of life outside the walls of the church. R = Ready and willing worshiper, to serve as modeled to meet the needs by our Lord Christ, confident that to do so with Humility” is not only pleasing reward now and in eternity. and Savior Jesus “Love, to God of each Unity and- but has We say “thank you” Lord for our Usher Ministry. great t. hank You ‘Acknowledgements Chairperson Sis. Bible history teaches us in Numbers 1:48-53, that God directed Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, to organize what we would determine to be the great Usher Organization as watchmen over the Tabernacle, over all vessels and over all things that belong to it. In I Chronicles 15:23-24, they are called "Door Keepers," this name lasted down across a number of years until today we find people rendering the same kind of service to the Church, being referred to as Ushers; From a few comes the Great Senior Usher Board of the New Zion Baptist Church. Since an usher is a forerunner, God was the first Usher, he ushered light into the world and called it day. He ushered man into the garden. God made woman and ushered her into the garden. Abraham ushered faithfullness into the world. Moses ushered the children of Isreal out of the land of Egypt. From many churches throughout these United States, this very unique, dignified, and beautiful group of Ushers have planted roots here in New Zion. According to the Church Records, between 1918 and 1929 Wall Avenue Baptist Church was built by the congregation. The Ushers were there. -«—s.. Our first Usher was a gracious lady by the name of Mrs. Bernice Oliver Gillespie, who now lives in Los Angeles, California. From 1936 through 1925 Church Ushers were serving all events. New members joined, in 1940 Mrs. Jolla united and is still very active. When it was suggested that the congregation purchase a lot and build a new Church, Usher Obie Blackmore made a contribution of $100. The cornerstone was laid Sunday, October 31, 1955. May God bless Roy for such things as God hath promised, or according to the Word for the good of the church, with submission and faith to the will of God. God's command and promise is our sole motive for prayer. Nothing could be commanded more precisely than what is stated in the Psalm, "Call upon me in the day of tribulation" (50:15). Those who try to wriggle out of coming directly to God are not only rebellious and stubborn, but are also victed of unbelief because they distrust the promises, “Work and as pray if as everything depended if everything upon depended you upon con- God".
