June 26, 1918 Dear Theron: Your letter came in the morning, I was to go to post so the delay in answering. You said you were at La Celle- Bouere- Cher. The other part was (censored) haven’t had time to look it up as yet. Had a letter from Dutch dated May 24. She reports everyone ok, also one from Jack in which he says that it will be quite a while before he can get leave, so he thinks, but nothing definite. We are in the most beautiful mountains in France and the inhabitants speak German. Our posts are on the mountain tops and it is a low gear pull of at least five kilometers up, have to come down in low with your brakes also. Stop and fill up with water a few times to. It is mighty cool and damp, resembles the country surrounding Tahoe very much. This is really repoe for us, being the quietest post of the western front. Will have some pictures printed and will send you some. Don’t think the idea of your transferring very good. You are trained in the work you are now in and most anyone can drive a Ford. Stay where you are best fitted, would like to have you with me but would advise you to stay with your own outfit. Later if you don’t like it, will try my best to help you. June 29 Came off duty last night and found some letters from home, one from Jack and one from Same Forter. Jack’s was a duplicate of the one he sent you so nothing new there. Dutch reports everyone well. Dumke now a captain. Wattis has his French uniform (officers) which I had made for him in Paris. Will receive pictures of it soon and will send one to you. Am enclosing a picture of myself. The color on the face is tan, have since had my beard shaved with a razor and cut off the mustache but both are doing nobly again. Mother has had her picture taken and think we can expect one soon. Well Theron this is the limit of the news, expect that I received a knitted blanket from the B.
