The Gospels tell us that on the morning two days after Jesus' death His tomb was found empty. Soon, Jesus' followers began to see Him and talk with Him. Christians believe Jesus' Resurrection means that they, too, can receive new life after death. The Easter festival celebrates this belief in renewed life. CONGREGATION: And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. MINISTER: His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. CONGREGATION: He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. MINISTER: And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. | MINISTER AND CONGREGATION: Then said Jesus unto them, be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me. Now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept. From April 11, 1993 the Pastor Greetings on this Easter Sunday Morning. Jesus' return to life is called the Resurrection. The Gospels tell us that on the morning two days after Jesus' death His tomb was found empty. KASTER Sunrise Services will be held at 6:30 AM Zion. this morning at New Sunrise Services mark the dawn of Easter. Some say that if weather permits one to see the sun rise on Easter, one will be able to see it "shout"! Easter is a Christian festival that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is the most important holy day of the Christian religion. In most countries, Easter comes in early spring, and most Christians observe Easter on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25. The story of Easter comes from the Bible., The Gospels tell that the body of Jesus disappeared from His tomb on the third day after His crucifixion. An angel appeared to His followers and announced "He is risen." Easter may have obtained its name from Eostre, a Teutonic goddess of Spring, or from the Teutonic festival of spring called Lostur. Some Easter Symbols The Cross. Represents the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It has special meaning to Christians as a symbol or Christ’s victory over death. The Lamb. This symbol comes from the Jewish Pesah or Passover. Early Christians interpreted the sacrifice of the paschal lamb as a forecast of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. They spoke of Jesus as "the Lamb world" (John 1:29). of God, which taketh away the sin of the Eggs. Eggs represent the new life that returns to nature about Easter time. The custom of exchanging eggs began in ancient times. Early Christians of Mesopotamia were the first to use colored eggs for Easter. Children of today often have chocolate and candy filled (jelly bean) eggs to go along with colored eggs. Rabbits. Some children believe that an Easter bunny brings their Easter eggs. This belief probably comes from an old German folk tale. But rabbits have been a symbol of birth and new life for many thousands of years. As such, they are symbols of the celebration of the new life Easter represents. The Meaning of Easter Easter Sunday. Holy Week is the final week of Lent. It recalls the events leading to Jesus' death and Resurrection. Palm Sunday is the first day of Holy Week. It celebrates the story of Jésus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, where people spread palm branches and clothing before him. Good Friday observes the death of Jesus on the corss. Most churches hold services on this day, some being held from noon until 3 pm to symbolize the three hours Jesus suffered during the Crucitixion. And then, of course, Easter Sunday celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus. This period in time ends on Ascension Day, or Ascension Thursday. On this day, the story of Jesus' rise into heaven is read in churches. Easter celebrates the return to life of desus Christ, after His Crucifixion. Jesus' return to life is called the Resurrection. Jesus’ return to life is called the Resurrection. The Gospels tell us that on the morning two days after Jesus’ death His tomb was found empty. Soon, Jesus' followers began to see Him and talk with Him. Christians believe Jesus' Resurrection means that they, too, can receive new life after death. The Easter festival celebrates this belief in renewed life. Easter Sunday. Holy Week is the final week of Lent. It recalls the events leading to Jesus' death and Resurrection. Palm Sunday is the first day of Holy Week. It celebrates the story of JEsus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, where people spread palm branches and clothing before him. | Most Christians observe Easter on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Thus, Easter can occur on any Sunday during the period from March 22 through April 25. Eggs and rabbits are the only ones that are not related to the Easter story. Eggs depict the relationship between spring and new life and were adopted by the Christian for this reason. Rabbits are associated with the fertility of spring because of their ability to produce many young. New clothes at Easter may have originated from the old practice of having newly baptized Christians wear new white clothes for the Easter celebration.
