The flat-topped hill in the center of the picture will form a small island and the ridge in the foreground will be totally submerged. August 15th, 1932. 1446 Visitors to the project are struck with the multiplicity of dish pans used as reflectors, which are scattered all over the project where night work is carried on. This is the crew that installs them. August 15th, 1932. 1484 High scalers perched on a bench 1,000 feet above the river prepare anchorages from which workmen will be suspended by ropes in scaling the canyon walls for the penstock, tunnel adits. August 22nd, 1932."
Description In 1931, Utah joined Six Companies Inc. to raise the surety required to bid for the Boulder (Hoover) Dam contract. One of the world’s largest dams, Hoover Dam was completed in 1936 at a cost of $49 million. These scrapbooks document through photographs the construction of the dam showcasing UCC's part in its creation.
