Description |
Perhaps the best-known symbol of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS church) is the full time missionary. They are seen in pairs all over the world, seeking out people with whom to share their message. Often, they are not native to the culture or the country, and their mission service is limited to two years for men or 18 months for women. At the end of their time, they return home to continue educational or professional pursuits. Some of these missionaries, however, will not serve the full length of time. They might leave the mission early due to physical or mental health issues, or due to other factors either in or out of their control. This study focuses on those early-returned missionaries and uses Social Identity Theory (SIT) as a lens through which to examine their experiences. |
