Brantley, Pastor March 24, 1991 ass“ MS SSS anes oe HISTORICAL SKETCH THE BEGINNING FIRST PASTOR Available records indicate that in 1918 the Utah Bapust State Convention purchased a lot on Wall Avenue in Ogden, where the Wall Avenue Baptist Church was built by the congregation. The church was incorporated on February 10, 19206. On October 5, 1930, the Rev. L.A. Platt of Ontarto,California became the first Pastor of the New Zion Baptist Church. He pastored for six years. Rev. B. J. Washington was called to pastor New Zion on April 8, 1952 and under his leadership the congregation grew into the need of a new Church building. Through this effort, Wall Avenue Baptist Church became New Zion Baptist Church. THE CHURCH GROWS Ground Breaking Services Laying of Foundation Laying of Cornerstone First Church Services Dedication Services May 16, 1954 November 1954 October 31, 1955 March 25, 1956 October 26, 1958 The anniversary of the first church service is celebrated each year on Palm Sunday in the form of Church Anniversary Services and the dedication service is celebrated each year on the 4th Sunday in October in the form of Loyalty Day SErvICes. Rev. SOULS ARE SAVED Washington pastored at New Zion for ten years. The largest baptism on record is the first Sunday in October 1979, during the pastorate of Rev. Dr, N. L. Liggins, when 27 converts were baptized. Rev. I. P. Brantley was called to New Zion on April 5, 1987 and New Zion continues to liftup the Name of Jesus.
