Image Captions "A page of scenic views taken in the vicinity of Hoover Dam. # 818 These pictures form a panorama from Observation 819 Point, overlooking Hemenway Wash and the reservoir which will be created when Hoover Dam is completed. The range of hills in the foreground will be sub¬merged, the flat-topped hill in the right-center forming a small island. The site of the gravel pit is in the direct center, where the two pictures join. January 26th, 1932. # 812 A view taken in Las Vegas Wash, on the former road, to the gravel pit, looking back toward the reservoir, with Fortification Hill shown in the background. January 20th, 1932. # 816 A telephoto view of Fortification Hill, a prominent landmark in this area. Geologists state that the entire Hoover Dam area was once covered with a cap of basalt, which has entirely eroded away, except on this commanding butte. The basalt cap can be plainly seen in the photograph, overlying the andesite which is of earlier volcanic origin. January 20th, 1932."
