Show I read the “induct” of Pope Leo. 13 and the Plenary indulgences! Granted to the liberal contributors to the fund for the fund for the re-building of the University of Ottawa. And I thought “what would the world say-if we pretended to grant” indulgences for a similar, or for any, purpose. How happy I am to know that good deeds bring their own rewards and that god is the giver of every perfect gift. Talk about pondering to superstition? Commend me to the Pope! Yours truly. J. OFFICE OF The First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. P.O. Box B. Salt Lake City, Utah Feb. 19th 1905 Hon. David Eccles Ogden. Dear Brother David: On my return to the office, 15th inst. I found your pencil note with cheque, covering 5% Dividend on Sumpter Valley Ry. Stock, for which I congratulate myself and the stock-holders. Generally, and commend the management of the company for the success which has crowned their efforts. Of course you know, you, yourself, come in for the largest share of congratulations and commendation. Such good fortune never comes a miss. Hoping Sister Eccles is better, I am H Jos. F. Smith |
