By looking on the brighter side, they find their inner strength. They take whatever time they have and live for all they’re worth, spreading love and happiness to others here on earth. They laugh a little louder and care a little more and show through their example just what life is for Although, we miss them when they’re gone, what stories we can tell of how they made a difference by simply living well. Those who love life and live it fully teach, inspire and show us how to leave behind lasting gifts to the world. Sister Elizabeth Ann Carpenter lived a wonderful life. She was a gracious and loving woman of God consistently exhibiting this love through her giving words of encouragement, acts of kindness and elegant demeanor Sister Carpenter loving honored her covenant of marriage to Dr Donald R. Carpenter for 50 years and passionately embraced her role of motherhood. As a testimony of her life and love for God, she humbly served in the vineyard of New Zion Baptist Church for 50 plus years in the following ministries. Whereas, the Heavenly Father called our Sister in the Lord, Sister Adean Blackwell, home to the mansion prepared for her from the foundation of the world. We, the Officers and Members of the New Zion Baptist Church, want the family to know that our hearts are with you as you gather to bid a Christian farewell to a valiant woman, and thought it was befitting to place on record on our love and esteem for her noble efforts to advance into the Kingdom of God. Not only is this a loss of a faithful servant of the Lord, but also a devoted and close friend to many here at the New Zion Baptist Church. WHEREAS, Sister Blackwell reverenced her Lord, Jesus Christ and exemplified this by serving Him and His church here at New Zion for many, many years. She was a Godly sister in Christ and was a dedicated member of the Choir, Gospel Harmonettes, and Usher’s Board Ministries, coordinated Easter Programs as well as a great supporter of various church programs, events and activities. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other; that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. By Henry Scott Holland (1847-1918) Canon of St. Paul’s Cathedral On behalf of Arthur Lee’s wife, Brenda, and the entire Holston family, they would like to say Thank You for extending so much love and support to their family Your kindness and thoughtfulness has meant a great deal to them during this difficult time. Brother Arthur Lee Holston, Sr., was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and a great friend to all who was blessed to have known him. Brother Holston, laughed a little louder and cared a little more and showed through his example just what life is for Although, we will truly miss him as a long standing member of this of this community, what stories we can tell of how he made a difference by simply living well. behind lasting gifts to the world. Those who love life and live it fully teach, inspire and show us how to leave We thank the Lord for the labors and the joy of Brother Holston for he was a God fearing man who truly loved the Lord. As a testimony of his life and love for Jesus the Christ, he humbly served his church for over 55 years. Brother Holston was always present for the many worship services, events and programs, greeting and ushering as a Door Keeper with his infectious smile and a warm embrace to all who entered on the north side of the Sanctuary, he graciously assisted those who were in need as a member of the First Aid Ministry and worked diligently preparing and serving delicious meals as a Culinary Specialist in the Kitchen/Culinary Ministry. Therefore, we at the New Zion Baptist Church celebrate the life of our Brother and count it all joy from the Lord for loaning him to us all for 67 years and has now afforded him a home on high. For Brother Holston knows more than any of us that death is not forever for those who accept, believe and confess that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, as God so eloquently states, “it is just a shadow, it appears to be dark then after the shadow passes we are brought back into the light.” It our prayer for the family and friends to know that death is not an end, but a transition to a place free of pain and suffering. The Word of God tells us in 2 Timothy 4.7-8, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith, in the future, there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day; and not only me, but to all those who have loved His appearing.” (CSB) Be it Resolved, that a copy of this and other ministry resolutions will be provided to the family and copies placed in the archives of the New Zion Baptist Church on this date, Saturday, June 6, 2015. Hall The morning call of the Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 6, 2011, to another human soul has come to carry him away to the mansion prepared for him from the foundation of the world by an all-loving God, we pen these resolutions in the memory of our Brother Benny W. Hall to express our grief and loss in the passing of our faithful member and friend. Whereas, the New Zion Baptist Church has lost a loyal member, the world has lost a great Christian character in the passing of Brother Hall. We rejoice that, in the midst of our sorrow, we are assured that his passing has brought him eternal joy and fellowship with God, for he has received the crown of righteousness laid up for all of the faithful. Brother Hall truly loved the Lord and the church and was a devoted member of this congregation for 50 plus years by serving as a member of the Usher’s, Trustee’s, Van and Laymen’s Ministries as well a faithful Sunday School attendee. He has left behind him a beautiful memory which well might be emulated by the young. Therefore, we thank the Lord for the opportunity of having known this spiritual personality, who was so interested in God's work, that he was in attendance at many, many church services and enjoyed the full privilege of its membership. He prayed faithfully for his church and the Pastor and supported them Jaithfully until his failing health caused him to remain away from New Zion for sometime before his passing. He made an indelible impression upon our church that we never ceased to consider him a full member, and his interest in the church never waned. Be it resolved, that though his presence will be greatly missed by his loved ones and those to who he had endeared himself, that they accept the Christian submission to God’s will by calling Brother Hall home. One belonging to him, and When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. “Lord, you said that once | decided to follow you, you’d walk with me all the way. But | have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. | don’t understand why when | needed you most you would leave me.” The Lord replied, “My son, my precious child, | love you and | would never leave you. Not only is this a loss of a devoted servant of the Lord, but also a devoted and close friend to many here at New Zion Baptist Church. She was a godly sister in Christ who was always sharing a beautiful smile, an encouraging word and support to all she encountered. Sister McQwen, reverenced her Lord, Jesus Christ and exemplified this by serving Him and His church here at New Zion for many years. She was one of the dedicated members who marched from the Wall Avenue Baptist Church to our current location some 55 years ago. WHEREAS, we will truly miss her annual visits during this time of year, we know the passing of our beloved Sister is the will of God and there is a human tie that has been broken which bleeds the heart in agony and pain. We thank our Heavenly Father for her life among us. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, we embrace the family because all of us have a common bond that will connect us for the rest of our lives. We know your loss is deep and your sorrow is great, but more importantly, we recognize that this loss is Heaven's gain. For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth... And now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth. For it matters not, how much we own; the cars...the house..the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard...are there things you’d like to change? For you never know how much time is left. (You could be at “dash mid-range”) If we could just slow down enough to consider what’s true and real, And always try to understand the way other people feel. And be less quick to anger, and show appreciation more, And love the people in our lives like we’ve never loved before. If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile... Remembering that this special dash might only last a little while. So, when your eulogy’s being read with your life’s actions to rehash... Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spend your dash?? On behalf of the family, may we express their sincere appreciation and gratitude for your many expressions of sympathy and kindnesses extended during their bereavement. Be It Resolved, we do bow submissively to the will of our Creator, who knows best and will always do what is right. We remind the family to be encouraged by remembering this poem: Don't grieve for me, for now I’m free. I’m following the path Gad laid for me. I took His hand when I heard Him call and turned by back and left it all. If my passing has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. Ah yes! These things, I too, will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. Perhaps the time seemed all too brief; don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free. She was born May 15, 1929 in Waldo, Arkansas, to Morgan and Dalezina Jones Crowe. She attendd elementary school and Westside High School in Waldo, Arkansas. Merle sought her professional certifications through her education to become a certified dietician. She met Linnard Holston at the Wall Avenue Community Center; they were married September 29, 1958 in Ogden, Utah. Merle worked as a Baker (the finest ever!) from March 5, 1951 until January 9, 20117. During her 60 years of employment, Merle did not miss a day of work nor was she ever tardy for her shift, which began at 4:00 a.m. (A great example of her dedication to the hospital. Merle was so admired and beloved by her colleagues at St. Benedict's Hospital (later known as Ogden Regional Medical Center) that an employee of the year award - initiated in 1998 - was created in her honor and was actually named for her (The M. Corrine Holston Award). Merle was the recipient of the first award. Later, in approximately 2010, the hospital felt it was time to honor Merle again at the Service Awards Banquet. This award is bestowed on one employee of the hospital on a yearly basis — at our yearly Service Awards Banquet. Merle was an outstanding example of the mission of St. Benedict’s Hospital, “Taking care of the sick as if they were Christ in person.” She is still referenced as setting the standard of excellence fo her colleagues. Merle was a faithful, devoted member and contributor to New Zion Baptist Church for over 50 years; where she sang in the choir and was a member of the “Willing Workers Club.” Merle received the 50 years dedicated service recognition award from New Zion Baptist Church in 2005. Trend: Utah climate is warmer, wetter, wilder The Associated Press SALT LAKE CITY — Climate researchers say 2006 was the third warmest year on record around the globe and here in Utah. “It was an interesting year,” said Alan Moller, a meteorologist at Utah State University’s Climate Center. “The summer was one of our warmest. Mean temperatures in June, July and August were running 4 to 5 degrees above normal.” That’s consistent with National Oce- SHEAR LI EL AO SEDO IOC N NODE bi, EE REWAELEDEAL EPMA BOERS hE anic and Atmospheric Administration reports that show that globally six of the warmest years on record since 1880 have occurred since 2001. With those rising temperatures came more drought and wildfires in the West, along with heavier precipitation and flooding. As a whole, Utah saw its fourthwarmest summer in 2006 and the second-hottest July. “But then, in the fall, our mean temperature ran a little cooler, and moisture definitely played a role,” Moller added. “September and October came A et Ait nmanarvt with a lot of storms, particularly in the south and southeast parts of the state, where they had phenomenal amounts of rain.” That gave the state normal to abovenormal snowpack for the second consecutive year, which refilled dry reservoirs, replenished aquifers and provided a stellar season for Utah skiers. “It was an almost perfect water year,” said Brian McInerney, a hydrologist for the National Weather Service office in Salt Lake City.
