OCR Text | Show Date: December 13, 2001 To: From: Subject: Congregation James Abrams, Pastor Recommendation Property 2942-2944 Lincoln Avenue During the past three months some members of the building committee conducted a study of the senior housing programs (202/811), to determine if we meet the requirements to qualify for such government grants. The results of this study revealed the following: A. Vacancy: There are a number of like facilities throughout the City of Ogden, and the State of Utah that are not completely occupied. B. Inadequate Space: At present we have allocated less than one acre (4 lots) for this project, which is inadequate. In order to erect facilities of this matter; a minimum of two acres are required. In view of these facts, and as your Pastor, 1 am recommending that we postpone this project and consider refurbishing the building located on said property. I am also requesting that this committee be granted an additional ninety (90) day to attempt to accomplish the following: A. Process and obtain approval of necessary documentation; (Federal 501C3 / Articles of Incorporation) which will allow us to receive donations from various organizations foundations. B. Solicit funds, material and labor from organizations such as: Banks, Echils, R.C Willeys foundations, Big D Construction and others. C. Progress: The committee will present to the church a monthly progress report to determine if we should continue or discontinue this project. We are also recommending that non-profit organizations such as; Prison Transitioning, Workforce Placement, Drug Rehabilitation, Food Pantry, and a Children’s Center to be allowed to use this facility, and we receive assistance in the form of IN-DIRECT COST which will defray or eliminate the monthly maintenance expenses. ALTERNATE RECOMMENDATION: If we are unable to acquire sufficient funds to complete this project, then, I will recommend that the Church consider subsidizing the remaining cost. Ifthe Church chooses not to subsidize this project, I then, will ask the Church to seriously consider demolishing this facility and retain the land. In ancient Grecian games the athlete assembled before the judges’ stand to receive the rewards for their excellence. The winner received a crown of laurel leaves. Some received no reward at all; they did not prevail. We are encouraged in the Holy Scripture to be faithful in our work unto death. To be true to the faith even though it costs us our lives. If we are thus faithful, our Lord will bestow upon us a Crown of Life (Rev. 2:10). In these scriptures we read: “Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulations to days: be thou faithful unto death, and| will give them a crown of life.” Sunday School Worship Service 9:30 a.m. 11:00 a.m. Prayer Meetings & Bible Study Wednesday, 12:00 (noon) & 6:30 p.m. L> i lave ye New One another" John 13:34 Zion Baptist Church 2935 Lincoln Avenue Ogden, Utah 84401 801-392-2211 Dea. Thank you, May God bless you and may Heaven smile upon you. Rey. James Abrams Pastor of Trustees A DECLARATION OF FAITH We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired, and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instructions; that it has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter; that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us; and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried. We believe the scriptures teach that there is one, and only one, living and true God, an infinite, intelligent spirit, whose name is Jehovah, The Maker and supreme ruler of heaven and earth; inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor, confidence and love; that in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons, The father, the Son, and The Holy Ghost; equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work redemption. We believe the Scriptures teaches that man was created in holiness, under the law of his Maker; but by voluntary transgression fell from that holy and happy state; in consequence of which all mankind are now sinners, not by constraint but choice; being by nature utterly void of that holiness required by the law of God, positively inclined to evil; and therefore under just condemnation to eternal ruin, without defense or EXCUSE. We believe the Scriptures teach that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace; through the mediatorial offices of the son of God; who according to the will of the Father, assumed our our nature, yet without sin; honored the divine law by his personal obedience, by his death made a full atonement for our sins; that having risen from the dead, he is now enthroned in heaven; and uniting in his wonderful person the tenderest sympathies with divine perfection, he is every way qualified to be a suitable, a compassionate and an all-sufficient Savior. We believe the Scriptures teach that Christian Baptism is the immersion in water of a believer in Christ, in the name of the Father, and Son, and Holy Ghost; to show forth, in a solemn and beautiful emblem, our faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior, with effect, in our death to sin and resurrection to a new life; that it is prerequisite to the privileges of a church relation, and to the Lord's Supper. We believe the Scriptures teach that the Lord's Supper is a provision of bread and wine, as symbols of Christ's body and blood, partaken of by the members of the church, in commemoration of the suffering and death of their Lord; showing their faith and participation in the merits of his sacrifice, and their hope of eternal life through his resurrection from the dead; its observance to be preceded by faithful selfexamination. We believe the Scriptures teach that the first day of the week is the Lord's Day; and is to be kept sacred to religious purpose, abstaining from all secular labor, except works of mercy and necessity, by devout observance of all the means of grace, both private and public, and by preparation for that rest that remaineth for the people of God. Submitted; Absent meeting take members. of — be twice each mailing FROM: TO: THE PASTOR THE CONGREGATION; NEW ZION BAPTIST CHURCH SUBJECT: THE PASTOR’S VISION; (CHRISTIAN EDUCATION). Many Christians, on coming into the church, have a very vague notion of their obligation and privileges. They have accepted Christ as Savior and have been baptized in obedience to God’s command, but they can scarcely be expected to know how to live the Christian life and to become efficient Christians without adequate training. Due to a lack of proper training many members become insecure, inactive, and eventually seek religious services elsewhere. Conceivably every one of these members might have become fruitful disciples if they had only received the proper training. As Pastor, I am responsible for feeding the flock of God.; and equipping the saints; (Ephesians 4:12). I am also aware of the fact that we are in need of a long range training program which will include a number of National Baptist certified study courses. Courses that will; 1. Strengthen us as disciples of Christ. 2. Enhance evangelism, induce recruitment, and retention. 3. Develop qualified instructors within our congregation. 4. Provide departmental/auxiliary training as required. 5. Provide doctrinal studies such as; the doctrines of: (Salvation, Baptism, Prayer, and Baptist Belief). In view of these facts, I am recommending that this training program be adopted, and implemented on March 17, 1999. Recommended Courses are as follows: Course #208 and # 209; Baptist Doctrine 1. #208 Adults - This course will allow us to examine the basic teaching of Baptist faith. We will be able to explore each doctrine and the Biblical basis for our doctrinal position. 2. #209 Youth - This course will acquaint our youth with the Biblical basis for Baptist faith and practices. Using a language and logic best suited for youth. 3. Projected courses for the future: Leadership/Deacon training, and the Doctrine of Salvation. LONG RANGE GOAL: As your Pastor, I solicit your prayers that in 5-7 years, God will allow us to develop this program into a Christian School where both, the youth and adults will be able to worship God and further their education.
