Platt of Ontario, California, became the first Pastor of the Wall Avenue Baptist Church. He pastured for Six Years. Reverend B. 9. Washington was called to pastor New Zion on April &, 1952. and under his leadership, the congregation grew into the need of a new church building Wall Avenue Baptist Church became New Zion Baptist Church, Baptist Church for ten year’, Through this effort. Hughes of Wake Forest. North Carolina, accepted our call to serve as Pastor of New Zion Baptist Church. Reverend Hughes and his lovely family arrived in May 2005 and during his tenure, New Zion has experienced increased membership, the liquidation of an outstanding mortgage, and a positive, influential presence in the local and surrounding communities impacting various echelons of government, ecumenical faith, and the educational and civic arenas as well Standing firm on the sound principles and precepts of God's Word, New Zion is embarking on an exciting future as we continue to faithfully serve God and seek to guide lost souls to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. To God be the glory! Nv: ‘ ' Our Keynote Speaker Reverend Daran H. Mitchell Reverend Daran H. Mitchell was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, and is the son of Clara Mitchell-Russell and the late Alphonso R. Curry. Reverend Mitchell is married to the former Ms. Lorraine Lynn Kennedy of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and they are the proud parents of one son, Caylen. Reverend Mitchell accepted his call to the Christian ministry at the age of 13 and preached his initial sermon at age 14 at the Hood Temple A.M.E. Zion Church in Tampa, Florida. He was ordained a deacon in the A.M.E. Zion Church at the age of 19 and received his elder’s orders two years later. Reverend Mitchell received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology/Liberal Arts (Magna Cum Laude) from Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1994; his Master of Divinity degree from the Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, North Carolina, in 1997; and is a doctorial candidate for the Doctor of Ministry degree, with emphasis on Liturgy and Worship in the Black Church, from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, with a prospective completion/ graduation of May 2006. Reverend Mitchell is presently the Pastor of the First African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Brooklyn, New York. Reverend Mitchell has served as an Adjunct Professor in Religion at the Mount Olive College in North Carolina, teaching Old Testament, New Testament and Hebrew Prophets. He has served as Adjunct Professor at the North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, teaching Christian Ethics and Introduction to Religion. Additionally, Reverend Mitchell has served as Adjunct Professor at the United Christian College in Goldsboro, North Carolina, teaching Old Testament and Church History. Reverend Mitchell is a man who possesses a passionate zeal and thirst for the Word of God and is in fervent pursuit of reaching lost souls and those saints who desire to deepen their personal journey with the Lord. His calling to the nations is one which encompasses a holistic approach in his serving humanity as well as spearheading initiatives and seeking venues which promote reconciliation, unity and community.
