Shen and Neu Available church records indicate that in 1918, the Utah Baptist State Convention purchased a lot on Wall Avenue in Ogden, where the congregation built the Wall Avenue Baptist Church. The church was incorporated on February 10, 1926. In 1929, Mrs. Georgia A. Holt came from Los Angeles, CA, to Ogden and reopened the Wall Avenue Church doors that had been closed for a time, and began a Sunday School. In August 1930, Mr. and Mrs. Neal came to Ogden and following active affiliation with the church, received consensus of its members to extend a call for the Wall Avenue Baptist Church's first pastor. Reverend L.A. Platt of Ontario, CA, became the first Pastor of the Wall Avenue Baptist Church on October 2, 1930 and rendered faithful service for six years. Succeeding pastors from 1936 to the early 1960’s included Reverend J.L. Jones, 1937; Reverend Paxton, 1937-1940; Reverend Jessie L. Conner, 1942-1948; Reverend J. L. Rollerson, 1948-1951; and Reverend B.J. Washington, 1952-1961. Under Reverend Washington’s leadership, the congregation increased and became in need of a new building. As a result, the Wall Avenue Baptist Church found its present location and became known as the New Zion Baptist Church. Ground breaking services were held on Sunday, May 16, 1954, and a dedication service was held on Sunday, October 26, 1958. This dedication service acquired the name of “Loyalty Day.” Each year on the fourth Sunday in October, New Zion observes this special dedication service, usually preceded by a Fall Revival and today, marks the 50" commemorative celebration of that most blessed occasion. There have been a number of dedicated pastors following Reverend Washington who have significantly contributed and served faithfully to sustain the godly light of New Zion Baptist Church in the Ogden community. As we culminate the first year with our new shepherd, Dr. Bruce Davis, Sr., and First Lady Sabrina Davis, New Zion has strengthen their resolve to equip themselves, utilizing sound Christian education, to continue to be a church in which the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ is boldly taught and preached. We are also striving to be a worthy example of Christian love, unity and community in accordance with our scriptural anchor to “Love ye one another.” “he Our Guest Revivalist Pastor Virgil V. I plan to continue until I get my Doctors Degree in Ministry and Ph.D. in Theology. Stability is very important to me, which is why my ministry continued to develop at Calvary until God called me to the First Baptist Church of Duarte, CA, in July 2001. At First Baptist Church, we developed a Church Library, Computer Lab, Women’s Lounge, Pictorial Directory, a new set of Bylaws and Church Constitution, and a great deal more. God certainly blessed my ministry at First Baptist Church. Prior to having begun my first pastoral assignment, I was blessed to have served in the position of Assistant to the Pastor in two administrations, an opportunity for which I am eternally grateful. Over my ministry, I have been privileged enough to have been influenced by several mentors, too many to name, from my home church and others all the way up to the national level. Upon my return to the Calvary Baptist Church in November 2002 (in a meeting presided over by Dr. Hardwick), God showed me very specifically what Calvary needed. Calvary Baptist Church needed a trustworthy ministry; programs to help the total person; and attitudes to foster a loving, caring and unified spirit throughout the congregation. I know I have been given a tremendous task which is why I trust that God will make it all happen. It is with these issues in mind that many have wondered how I appear to have such an enormous amount of energy. That I have this level of excitement is nothing new for I have always had it and my entrepreneurial spirit has driven me to many successful ventures in my life. To be successful, I have learned the value of managing time, people and resources. As I look to the future having recently celebrated 22 years of being married and 27 years of ministry, I bring with me the experience of being the President of the Young Adult Department of the Western Baptist State Convention; Executive Secretary of the Los Angeles District Association; former Assistant Dean of the Western Baptist State Congress of Christian Education; Member of the Southern Baptist Convention; Member of the N.A.A.C.P.; Member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference; Member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Clergy Council (Ladera Center); Pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Los Angeles; and many of the faces and figures who have influenced me at home and abroad. I am merely a composite of everything people have said or did to me over my lifetime. Finally, it was just a few years ago that Mr. Lloyd Allen, Deacon of the Calvary Baptist Church in Santa Monica and owner of Allen’s Janitorial Company of the same city, asked me to pay him a visit. He challenged me to preach the Gospel in buckets rather than in thimbles. That meeting moved me so much that it redefined my purpose. I am eternally grateful to God for all the people He has placed in my life; especially those who would dare to say something dreadfully sensitive to the preacher. Moreover, I thank the Calvary Baptist Church for giving me the room to make mistakes and continue to grow as their Pastor. I look forward to what God has in store for my family and me, and I anxiously await His next set of instructions for He has done great things! ¥ Hew Bion Saptist Church “The Church Built Ey Faith” poet CD et 2935 Lincoln rbucnue << Ogden, Utah S440 (S01) 892-221 x, Grace Davis, Sr., Senior Pastor Fall Revival Program “Theme: ~ Sewanthood — “The Paradigm of Greatness” Seufture: Matthew 25:21 Wednesday, October 22, 2008 » 7:00 t.m. to ; ¢ ¢ e Gt e eS ¢?@# ¢ e e ¢ e & ¢ e ¢ e ¢ ¢ ¢@ ¢#4¢?é s 4 e é e e ¢ ¢@é Ge e a e AdSMTOt e GS 7 LUCE ; At, e : ; e f ’ f ¢¢@ ¢@¢@ e eé@¢@é e 44 2-2 e C2 Oe G22 & e e e e e ¢ ¢¢@ e e ¢@ é e e e e e e s eo 4 ¢@ e e CBB e e CC & e ¢¢# Gh ¢ 2 e 4¢é# a & 4 ¢@ e ¢¢é# 4 e e 4 e e e ¢ ¢ & ¢@?é e ¢ e 4 ¢@ ’ e e ¢ ¢¢é e ¢ e ¢ £ e e e D— ¢ CACOUS = & hte f e e e é e e e e¢@ a £ e £0, f F a, OO e e ¢ oH ee ee ¢@ O-F e a a 23-4 4 4¢¢@ e é e eee e f 4 e e Ba se e e ¢ <x “MS yu“ e PE 8 ¢ ee ¢ ¢ e OS ¢@¢é@ e ¢ ¢ e e ¢ 4 ¢ & e e s 4@# ¢ ¢ 4 e e OH ¢ e ’ & a ¢ & e e é ¢4 e i, xo Om e e f CC e e e reresscouds es e e & e e eo e e e Poh e a es 4 e e é e e e e e é & e ¢ e a e & ’ 4 e e ¢ e e e ’ & ¢ 4 & e & ¢ e ¢ e e s a e a e - e é e & & ¢ e & e e e @ ’ eo e é s e e ¢ eo e 4 ¢ e e é e ¢ e ’ e e é é e a 4 e e e e eo é e ¢ e e es e e & e eo ¢ e eo e e ée 4 é ¢ ¢ & e s e e & e e & a e e e e e e & e e e e e 4 4s e ¢ é e e e a, 4 CACOUS : : e e , | Cursicak elecltou e a e e e e e € e e e e © s e s ° p ee “ te Oe Lo le e ¢ é ’ & e ¢ e e G. ¢ #8 ¢ & e e es e e e a e e e e s e - e e e e e e a ¢ ¢ ’ e e e e e eo se e e e e e e 4 e a é LACE : 8 ee 72 RE e e e RRO e e e BP OO 4 a e e BE BEBO BODE OO EE é e e e é e a e é e e BR BEG BOO BD COB OA PO BOE OB SD 4 EN a e OE e EB e e e a OBE 7 BBE e e e e e ECB e e e Bx 2 Oe é e Cz, e g CULO™ ° ee ee Oe Re Oe BOO DES FOB GD SE BBB OEE BE BBM BA OB EE BEEBE BEB BBE BB BEBE A OSG ALE CB BOC EEE DOE HB OEE COG AB BE EE BOD BBB BESO BEBE EB AdSLON BORE BEEBE NUACE BORE EO OM Re ee PO OO! I look forward to what God has in store for my family and me, and I anxiously await His next set of instructions for He has done great things! , New Zion Baptist pr | | “The Church Built By Faith” 2935 Lincoln Avenue Dr. Bruce Paget | Cele ration Theme: - * Ogden, Utah 84401 ST, Senior 7Pastor “Be Excellent at What is Good- Be Innocentit of Evil’ : Scripture: Romans 16:19 | Sunday, October 25, 2009 & 3:30 p.m. Order of Service "Call t to Worship segs act Bites 20a ates Ag ala oR aot ae Pastor Bruce Davis, ‘Sr. | *Processional.
