Under coe leadership ped. Christian Educat Greetings in the Matchless Name of Jesus Christ! It is truly a blessing to have you share with us in our 85" Church Anniver It is by God’s grace and mercy that we have come this far. Today, we gath thank God for allowing us to endure life’s trials and tribulations and maintain our faith, for we walk by faith and not by site. We cordially invite. to join us in this historical event. It is a great joy when the saints come togetl to praise and worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. | Glory be to God for blessing and keeping us for 85 years. We are sincerel thankful that the New Zion seeds were sown in good soil, for God has blessea them to come to harvest. So today, we humble ourselves before the one and only God and honor Him fo what He has done, for what He is currently doing and for what He will do in the future. For He is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we can ever ask, or think, according to the power that worketh in us. | It is our prayer, as we remain steadfast and keep our hands in God’s hand, tha we will continue to see His sovereignty and be a Christian congregation who systematically ministers to meet the needs of the “total person” spiritually socially, economically and physically as we go forth in all that God has ordainec us to accomplish. | This endeavor truly encompasses our church mantra for the last 85 years, “The Church Built By Faith” and our mission statement, “We wise and unwise, indebted to worship, educate, proclaim fellowship of Christian faith until it covers the earth.” Praise be to God from whom all blessings flow! Jimmie Lee Bell February 4, 1922 WEN awa ear. 08 The Fier ofa Congregation, : This is not about the building ofa new Sanctuary, nor is it about the historical march a beautiful spring afternoon in 1956. This is about faith, hope and dreams of congregation. Realizing that God has given us the strength to face any trial or danger; we continue to be a congregation that truly believes that prayer is the only way to salvation. This strong faith has span some 85 years. In 1952, a Pastor and the congregation were inspired by God to build a new facility with a $100.00 donation from a church member and the faith that God would see them through it. All things are possible! The journey begin with bake sales, fish fry dinners, rummage sales, banquets and even baby contests, along with special membership pledges. Palm Sinday 1956, New Zion became a reality. On that remarkable day, there were more than 600 people in attendance, six choirs and several gospel groups from within the church family. New Zion had a membership of three hundred souls and many, many ministries. The New Zion Church family has a rich history of weathering the storms of life while many times without an Under Shepherd and financial stability. Through it all, the congregation never wavered. The members pulled closer together; with faith and prayer God brought New Zion through. Every Sunday morning the officers did what was required, the choir sang and the ushers were at their posts. We kept the faith and knew that God was always with us. We salute those who have gone before, those founding men, women and children who laid the foundation for continual growth. Those pioneers had the foresight of God to build ona sound foundation and by doing so, they believed that it would stand the test of time. New Zion has been a beacon of light in the community and surrounding area for 55 years. In December 2007, God sent us a warrior on the battlefield our way, Dr. Bruce Davis, Sr. and his help meet, First Lady Sabrina W. Davis, to lead the congregation. He, being the warrior like “David” and with a vision from God, to build a new state-of-the-art facility to meet the needs of our growing congregation and the needs of our community just as they did in 1952. The members welcomed the vision with faith and know that through God, “all things are possible.” There is no doubt, that in the near future, we, as a congregation will walk into that new facility singing the church theme, “We Come This Far By Faith.” As a congregation, we recognize that is a long journey, “for we know that the race is not — given to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but they that wait upon the Lord and keep 2 His ways, shall be exalted to inherit the land.” May God's grace and peace be with you~ Sts, Hazel Youes 85th Anniversary and Homecoming Committee Chair | | he ew, Hearing God 5 Word in the Sermon... It is reported that we forget 90% of what we hear. It has been suggested that note taking will double the percentage of our take-home response to what God is saying. Why not try it and see?
