ME OF Lng) Theme: ‘Pressing Onward’ Scripture: Philippians 3:14 AENG ‘ LYA GC 9? Cg A TRIBUTE TO PASTOR BRANTLEY There isn't a one of us, I'm sure, who doesn't like flowers. We may not ail like the same flower, but as the poet said, "A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet." Think of your favorite flower. Visualize the beauty of it with each full blown petal surrounding the pistil, or seed- bearing organ in the center. Each petal occupies its own place around the flower's center, and if plucked, leaves a noticeable gap in the symmeiry of the flower, destroying its beauty. perfection is marred. If one petal is dropped or damaged, the flower's So it is with our church, which, when symbolized by a flower, is only complete, when each member occupies our place of duty and with all other members, combine to make a workable beautiful whole. Although only God can be the head of the Church, Pastor Brantley and the members play an important role in its function. The Pastor is naturally the stamen - the center of the church's planning and coordination; the generator of ideas to keep the church alive and strong enough to support its organizations and auxiliaries, and the community. With just a Pastor, however we have nothing but a colorful, vibrant stamen willing and waiting to grow. The first petal we add to the stamen is our First Lady, Sister Brantley, because together they share the same goals, dedication, and faith as they support one another in all areas of church responsibility. We then add the next petal, the deacons, for they are those who share the Pastor's responsibilities, interchanging as required, but always working as a team. Joining next are our officers and organizations who assist in all areas of church responsibility, taking care of the needs of members and the community as needed. Now that we have our flower - does it just hang loose in space? No, the flower is supported by a stem which carries to it the nourishment and moisture absorbed through its roots. This important part of the flower is our entire membership, without whose enthusiasm, support and cooperation, our flower would wither and die. And so, Pastor and Sister Brantley, on your First Anniversary of service to New Zion, may you live long, preach on, and we hope that you will be with us for many years to come. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us; Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on till victory is won. Stony the road we trod, Bitter the chast’ning rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered; We have come, slaughtered, Out of the gloomy treading our path thro’ the blood of the past, Till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast. God God of our weary years, of our silent tears, Thou who has brought us thus far on the way; Thou who has by thy might, Led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee, Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, We forget Thee; Shadowed beneath Thy hand, May we forever stand, True to our God, true to our native land.
