Show Treatment in a Clinical Setting Addressing Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome BACKGROUND • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is frequently misdiagnosed, and can often be poorly managed. 1,2 • Presently, there are many gaps in treatment, diagnosis, and education of PCOS in clinical settings. 3 • The Rotterdam Criteria, a diagnostic tool for PCOS, is an evidence-based guideline for healthcare providers. 3 • This project aims to improve healthcare provider knowledge and increase patient diagnosis and treatment utilizing the Rotterdam Criteria. METHODS • The framework used was the Model for Evidence-based Practice Change. 4 • To collect data for project analysis, three surveys were created to give to healthcare providers within a Western State women’s clinic. o A pre-survey was created to evaluate healthcare providers baseline knowledge of PCOS. Audree Carlson, BSN, RN, MSN Student Dr. Kasey Grubb, DNP, RN, CNE Sierra Mayzsak, FNP INTERVENTIONS The project will span a one-year time frame and each intervention will be given at a quarterly meeting to allow for completion and data analysis. • Step 1: Pre-survey to be given to healthcare providers and completed anonymously and with consent. • Step 2: PCOS educational presentation and deliverables to be given, including a patient handout and Rotterdam Criteria table. • Step 3: Post-survey to be given to evaluate the impact of the presentation and deliverables for the healthcare providers. • Step 4: A follow-up survey will be given, and data presented to healthcare providers and stakeholders with an open discussion to follow on using Rotterdam Criteria and if there were observed changes regarding PCOS practices in the clinic. IMPACTS • Utilization of the Rotterdam Criteria can aid in providing correct diagnosis and timely treatment of PCOS and help provide a positive impact on patient care. • Healthcare providers play a vital role in educating patients, and patient education can improve patient decision-making regarding treatments and ongoing care, as PCOS is a chronic illness. 5 • Providing education, deliverables and the Rotterdam Criteria to providers can affect the teaching, resources, and materials shared with patients and aid providers in creating a beneficial plan of care for patients with PCOS. o A post-survey was created to re-evaluate healthcare provider responses following education given on the Rotterdam Criteria and PCOS. CONCLUSIONS o A follow-up survey was created to evaluate if changes were implemented within the span of the project. • By presenting healthcare providers with the Rotterdam Criteria for proper diagnosis, they can improve patient outcomes with early and correct diagnosis of PCOS. REFERENCES • Providers can play a pivotal role in empowering patients with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to reach their goals and improve their overall health while managing their PCOS. 1 Christ, J.
