Teresa Sandersen, chair of the Membership Committee, read two letters of potential members. Sharyl turned the time to Janette Bischoff who is chairman of the play for the evening, “Jekyll and Hyde.” Sharyl Tucker sang Jekyll. Janette Bischoff sang Hyde. Following the program, refreshments were served and the meeting adjourned until November 17. Respectfully submitted, Val Newton Recording Secretary DRAMA CLUB OF OGDEN presents JEKYLL AND HYDE The Broadway Musical - concerns a brilliant doctor whose experiments with human personality create a murderous counterpart. Convinced the cure for his father’s mental illness lies in the separation of Man’s evil nature from his good, Dr. Henry Jekyll unwittingly unleashed his own dark side, the savage, maniacal Edward Hyde. He wreaks havoc in the streets of late 19-century. Add a beautiful love interest, Emma, and the plot really thickens. Hopefully Val will return to better health and to the club soon! We thank her for her faithful service to the club so far this year fs recording secretary. Club members were reminded of the Christmas Luncheon Date: Saturday: , 2011 at the Ogden Golf and Country Club. The cost of the meal will be $18.00 and members are reminded that the cost is due even if they don’t attend. Each of the club members took a moment to introduce the guest or guests they had invited and then the time was turned over to Karen Brookens, the chairperson for the Guest Night Performance. Karen introduced the play for the evening, “The Real Inspector Hound” by Sir Tom Stoppard, a Czech playwright. Cast members for the play included Teresa Sanderson, Jolene Rausch, Suzi Venable, Karen Brookens, Pam Higginson, and Myrene VanDyke. The story of “The Real Inspector Hound” seemed rather simple at first. Two theatre critics, Moon and Birdboot, find themselves together at the theatre to review a “whodunit” that resembles—in a remote and wacky sort of way—Agatha Christie's “The Mousetrap.” After watching the first half of the production where a dead body remains on stage throughout and is both ignored and talked about, the critics discuss the goingson, and the performances, and some interesting personal information. Suddenly the critics find themselves drawn into the very action of the play itself by a mysterious phone call coming from the on-stage telephone. Who answers a prop? Now really! Anyway, the actual and the theatrical become completely intertwined after the strange phone call, and the real Inspector Hound's identity is left for the audience to figure out! Our talented cast did a wonderful job of keeping us all humorously entertained and pleasantly confused all the way to the delightful end! We are sure the Altruist Club and the Chareya Club will both thoroughly enjoy this production as much as we did, as it serves as the Drama Club’s traveling community production for the year. After the program, club members were left to visit with one another and enjoy the lovely art center and the delicious pumpkin pie and nuts which the hostess committee served as refreshments. The meeting was adjourned until December 3, 2011. Respectfully submitted, Janette Bischoff substituting for Val Newton, recording secretary November 17, 2011 Drama Club of Ogden Minutes of Christmas Luncheon Meeting December 3, 2011 Conducting: Attending: Sharyl Tucker, president Sharyl Tucker called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone to the Ogden Golf and Country Club for the annual Christmas meeting of the Drama Club of Ogden. The meeting was held on Saturday, December 3, 2011, and began promptly at 11:00 a.m. Club members gathered in the Terrace Room, which is a more intimate setting as our numbers for the event were small. The table decorations were lovely. Vicki Crist and committee had created some darling favors for each place setting. Regarding the favors, Sharyl Tucker noted in the welcome that the creative favors were a tribute to a comment made by Marge Dene Taylor at the September budget discussion. Marge Dene had commented (regarding potential budget cuts) that there was enough talent in the group that we could do just about anything, including making favors using toilet paper tubes! Vicki took the task to heart, and had the comment not been made, perhaps no one would have known the bird and Yule log favors were indeed constructed of toilet paper tubes! Lunch was served first and enjoyed by all. Program. Following the meal, Pam Higginson introduced her Christmas She had invited members of the club to honor memories of Drama Club Past. Members enjoyed stories and reminiscences of Drama Club experiences and members long since past, but still near and dear to many hearts. Mary Halverson began the tributes with ip warm memories, followed by Joyce Stillwell who shared poetry written by her dear late mother, Aéerr. Janette Bischoff and her daughter, Natalie Langford, performed a vocal duet entitled, “Christ Child, Christ Child.” They were accompanied by Meg Naisbitt. Geneva Peterson shared memories of charter members and plays done in grand style. Marge Dene Taylor reminded us of Drama Club Christmases at the o/d Ogden Golf and Country Club complete with big wooden ceiling timbers, fireplace, and rooms full of candles. Members were each given a corsage consisting of a single red rosebud and mistletoe provided by JoD’Anne Dance and Marge Dene Taylor in honor of their mother, Fern Taylor, a lifelong member of Drama Club. Marge Dene led the group in the traditional Christmas Drama Club toast. | Following the toast, we enjoyed Meg Naisbitt’s piano rendition of “Santa Clause is Coming to Town.” Myrene Van Dyke then shared her fond memories, and Bonnie King favored us with a vocal solo, “Happy Holidays” and “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” She was accompanied by Sharyl Tucker. Pam Higginson closed the program by singing a delightful medley of Christmas songs with her performing friend Bill who accompanied them on his acoustic guitar. Their performance included such pieces as “Celebrate Me Home” and “Counting My Blessings.” Sharyl Tucker presented a brief Christmas message as president and everyone joined hands for our traditional “Auld Lang Syne,” with Meg accompanying us on the piano. Now the Christmas season has officially begun! Meeting stands adjourned until January 26, 2012 at the home of Pam Higginson. Special music was then provided by Char Adams who performed a delightful selection for “Thoroughly Modern Milly”. She drew everyone in with her warmth and dramatic flare. The program was then presented. Playwrite is Thornton Wilder, who is best known for writing “Our Town” and “Matchmaker”. “Wreck on the 5:25” was introduced in 1957, and was performed only once. Wilder wrote the play in a series in which each play represented one of the seven deadly sins. This play represented “sloth”. The Drama club cast skillfully portrayed the unusual characters in Wilder’s play. A lively discussion ensued to determine the message being presented. One comment made was that we keep our true selves hidden, so as to not expose our vulnerabilities, and we don’t truly see one another. A line from the place indicated that “all window glass is the same”. When you observe others arguing through a window, and are unable to hear the conversation, their actions do not match their words.
