To create a sympathy for the highest form of the dramatic and lyric art, creating a permanent taste for good drama. Article II] Section 1. - Membership: Membership, limited to 35 active members and such sustaining me There shall be two classes: active and sustaining. The needs of the : Hund Club’s purpose and program must govern the selection of candidates to be voted upon. Readers, actors, artists, musicians, writers, executives, etc. shall be preferred as they are needed. Section 2: A candidate for active membership must have been a resident of the Ogden area for one year or more. Section 3. Nomination of prospective members shall be presented to the membership Committee in writing, stating their qualifications and signed by three sponsors at least one week before being presented to the Club. Voting shall take place at the next regular meeting after the name is _ is presented to the Club members. Section 4: Elections shall be by ballot and three negative votes shall exclude a candidate from membership. Section 5: Names of rejected candidates shall not be presented again within a year. Section 6: Active members shall consider themselves honor bound as far as possible to study the subject under consideration by the Drama Club, to perform literary, musical, or committee work assigned them. Should a member be unable to serve where assigned, she should notify her chairwoman, and obtain a substitute if desired. Hostesses should be informed of excused absences prior to the meeting. Section 7: Sustaining membership may be conferred upon any member who has become a nonresident temporarily, a member who is physically unable to attend regular meetings, or one whose vocation prevents regular at- tendance. Recommendation for sustaining membership shall be made by the membership committee and voted upon by the Club. Sustaining members are entitled to all privileges of Active membership except that of voting. A sustaining member has preference in becoming an active lala when vacancies occur in the active membership roll. — Article IV- Officers: Section 1: The officers of this Club shall be a president, vicepresident, recording secretary, corresponding secretary, treasurer, auditor, historian, and parliamentarian elected by the a They shall constitute the Executive Section 2: he regular term of all officers shall ieonmmiente at the adjournment of the last meeting of the Club year and continue one year. Section 3: A majority of all votes cast will be necessary to constitute an election. Section 4: Section 5: No member shall hold the same office for more than two consecutive terms. Vacancies in offices may be filled by vote of the members. Article V-Meetings: Section 1: Regular meetings shall be held from September through June with guest day as planned by the Program Committee. Article VI-Quorum: Section 1: One-third of the active membership of the Club shall constitute a quorum at any regular or annual meeting. But at no time shall lack of a quorum at a regular meeting prevent those present from proceeding with the program of the day. Article VII-Amendments: Section 1: This constitution may be amended at any regular meeting by a two-thirds vote of all active members present, provided the proposed amendments have been presented to the membership at a previous meeting. Section 2: By-laws and policy motions may be adopted, amended or repealed at any regular meeting by a two-thirds vote of those present. BY-LAWS Article I-Dues: Section 1: The annual dues of active members shall be $2 and those of sustaining members $5.00, paya the first meeting in September. Any member elected to active membership after March 1“ shall be exempt from payment of dues for the current year. Section 2: Hostesses fees for special events shall be determined by The hostess chairwoman for that event. Article I[-Duties of Officers: Section 1: The duties of the officers shall be such as are implied by their respective titles and such as are specified in these By-laws. Section 2: Section 3: The PRESIDENT shall preside at all meetings and be an ex-officio member of all standing committees. She shall be custodian of the two Drama Club gavels and the framed die plate during her term of office. She shall annually appoint custodian(s) for other club properties. She shall represent the Drama Club on the Utah Musical Theater Board. The immediate PastPresident shall be chairwoman of the June Breakfast. The VICE-PRESIDENT shall perform the duties of the President in the President’s absence. She shall be a member of the program committee and, as presidentelect, shall appoint all standing committees for the following year. She shall obtain the gift for the outgoing president to be presented at the June Breakfast. Section 4: The RECORDING SECRETARY shall keep the minutes of each meeting and an accurate list of the membership of the Club with the addresses and telephone numbers of each member. She shall notify by letter members who have three unexcused absences inquiring their membership intent. She shall incorporate into her annual report a digest of all motions made throughout the year which affect the government of the Club and file them in the secretary book. Section 5: The CORRESPONDING SECRETARY shall be custodian of the Yearbooks, Constitution and By-laws. At the time of the June Breakfast, she istri ‘new Yearbooks to each member present. To those not present, she shall send a copy by mail or deliver in person. She shall, under direction of the President, notify new members of their election by letter, specifying obligations of membership. She shall send a Christmas Party and a June Breakfast invitation to sustaining members, and conduct other correspondence of the Club. Section 6: The TREASURER and keep a record of all dues paid. She shall notify by January all members whose dues are delinquent. she shall handle all monetary transactions of the Club. Bills and donations shall be sent to the Treasurer and paid upon order by the Club or its Executive Committee. She shall keep an itemized account of all receipts and disbursements. She shall submit a financial report at the annual meeting and an audited report to be filed in the Secretary’s Book at the following September meeting. She shall bill sustaining Section 7: shall receive¢ om ues, give receipts, mbers for their dues on September first, The AUDITOR shall examine the Treasurer’s books and make a report of her audit at the following September meeting. Section 8: The HISTORIAN shall keep a scrapbook record of clippings of the Club’s activities, and items of interest pertaining to the members. Section 9: The PARLIAMENTARIAN shall in case of any question of procedure, bring to the attention of the Club those provisions of the Constitution and By-laws that govern the situation, and be familiar at all times with the new rules and regulations. At the September meeting, she shall review those governing policies in the Constitution and By-Laws requested by the President. She shall also maintain a record of any outstanding policy motions. 5 Article I1[-Committees: Membership, Current There shall be the following committees: Year’s Program; Next Year’s Program, Play Committee; Courtesy; Finance; and Nominating. Such other committees shall be named as needed. Section 1: (a) (b) (Cc) Membership Committee The Membership Committee shall receive all applications for membership, investigate the qualifications of applicants, and report recommendations to the Drama Club. Only the same number of candidates as vacancies shall be presented for voting. Names may be carried over from year to year on a waiting list or until acted upon by the Membership Committee. There shall be no record in the minutes of names presented for membership and a proposed member shall not be advised of her candidacy. The result of the ballot shall be given by the tellers to the President, who in turn will announce to the membership the result of the ballot, if in the (d) Section 2: (a) (b) (Cc) (d) (e) affirmative. | The Chairwoman of the Membership Committee shall introduce the new member at her first regular meeting and present her with a copy of the Constitution and Bylaws and a Yearbook. Program Committee The Program Committee for the ensuing year shall recommend subjects for study not later than the January meeting for approval by the Club. They shall prepare a calendar of literary works and musical performers for the coming year. They shall assign houses, hostesses, program chairwomen, and committees for the monthly programs. They shall provide copies of the play, or sources where they can be obtained, to the play chairwomen. The Drama Club logo shall be used on the first page of the Yearbook. (f) (g) (h) (i) Section 3: Section 4: Section 5: (a) (b) (C) (d) Section 6: In preparing the Yearbook more popular civic dates should be avoided, and an additional check should be made at the September meeting for other conflicts. Adjustments should be made at that time. When the need arises, guest performers may be asked to participate in the program. The hostess and the President should be notified. Reservations for the location of the Christmas Party, June Breakfast and Guest Night must be made a year in advance by the chairwoman of the Program Committee. The chairwoman of the Program Committee, with the approval of the President, shall be responsible for the compilation and printing of the Yearbook to be ready to be presented at the June Breakfast. The Play Committee shall recommend and be responsible for the development and enactment of a program to be presented at the November Guest Night, and a program which may be presented to the community during the year. The Courtesy Committee and the President shall be informed of members who are ill or in distress. An appropriate expression of remembrance shall be sent. The Finance Committee The Finance Committee shall be composed of four officers, namely the President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary and Treasurer. All hostesses shall be equally responsible for the costs of entertaining each month as well as at special events. Special events shall be self-financing as far as possible. The Club shall make contributions only to those causes that further the arts, provided such contributions stay within the budget. The Nominating Committee, consisting of the President, Vice-President, and the immediate past President, shall at the March meeting present a Now slate of officers. The current Vice-Presidents _ Further nominations may be called from the floor. Permission from all candidates shall be Article [V-Meetings: Section 1: Regular meetings shall be held on the fourth Thursday of the month, beginning in September, unless otherwise specified. Section 2: The agenda for meetings shall include: roll call, reading and approval of minutes, any committee reports, unfinished and new business, program of the day, refreshments and adjournment. Section 3: Meetings shall be conducted in accordance with Section 4: The annual meeting shall be held in May, at which time the annual reports of the officers shall be read and filed Robert’s Rules of Order, Revised. with the secretary. Section 5: In August, the President shall call a meeting of the Executive Committee, together with the Past-President, past Treasurer, chairwomen of the Program Committees, Guest Day, Christmas Party, and June Breakfast to set up a budget for the coming year and review governing policies. The past Treasurer shall make a financial report at this meeting. Other special meetings may be called by the President as needed. Section 6: Installation of officers shall take place at the June Breakfast. |
