Val Newton conducted her first meeting as the new club president and began her duties by introducing three new members, Jolene Rasch, Kera Hill and Cathi - with an I, blame it on my mother - Magner. In her first report to the club, new treasurer Marge Dene Taylor said the good news 1s “We have money in the bank.” She said she would get back and tell us how much after she looked at the books. She also reminded members that dues were due. It was noted that club member Tita Linquist and her husband will be honored by the Ogden Symphony and Ballet. Program chairman Marj Luke announced that scripts for most of the selected plays for the year were in. She also noted that the three new members would fill in the question marks in the various casts. Members took a few minutes to remember Athleen Johnson and Portia Douglas who recently died. Val remarked that the two ladies had once been the backbone of | the drama club. Music for the evening was provided by Martha Krebs, who was accompanied by Carol Hurst. All exclaimed afterwards at Martha’s beautiful voice. The program for the evening was “I Remember Mama,” performed by Vicki Crist, Jolene Rasch, Helen ,Plowgian, Marge Dene Taylor, Mary Halverson, Jo’D Ann Dance and Val r, who all played several roles. Their performance was delightful, and caused the audience to both laugh and cry. The evening concluded with cheese cake served by Martha Krebs, Helen Plowgian and Pat Bean. The chocolate variety was the favorite. Musical entertainment for the night was part of the show with Cathi and Janette trading off on singing and piano duty. Don’t spread the gossip, but Cathi got downright “raunchy” for one number. Prior to the performance, President Val Newton handled the business end of the meeting, which included a vote on the year’s budget as presented by Marge Dean Taylor. She said the club had $947.25 in the bank and that the club’s budget for the coming year is $930. The allocated expenses are identical to last year’s budget with one exception. The miscellaneous budget was increased $50. As part of the budget, donations, as usual, will be made to the Utah Musical Theatre, Eccles Community Center, the Ogden Symphony and Ballet and the annual story-telling festival, which 1s now in its eighth year. Jo’D Ann Dance made the motion to accept the budget and Marj Luke seconded it. Members unanimously said “Aye.” Val said “Good job, Marge.” And Marge said, “The bank’s open,” which was her offer to accept any as yet unpaid dues. Announcements included a plea to invite friends and husbands to guest night in November, and one from Jolene Zito, next year’s program director, for help in play selection. Jolene said a theme had not yet been picked and that for the present she just needed help from members in knowing what plays had recently been performed. The night ended with some wonderful hot mulled cider and soft, frosted pumpkin cookies. They were served by Jeanette Bischoff, who hosted the meeting at her home, with the help of Jolene and Pam Higginson.
