Primary Election DaiA Palitical Advertisement Black Affairs Director, Betty Sawyer, receives Sojourner of Truth Award Betty Sawyer became the recipient of the Sojourner of Truth award presented by Your Community Connection (YCC) The Your Community the NAACP and is a councilor recognized Betty is on the board of the Ogden Connection (YCC-formerly for Youth NAACP. Sawyer as the Woman of the Area Community Action YWCA) year Sojourner Truth Award in a ceremony held May 9. The award was presented to Betty Sawyer, Director of the Governor's office of Black Affairs, for her many achieve- ments as an outstanding Black community leader. Sawyer, who is the mother of five, is involved with many organizations in her community. She is active in the New Zion Baptist Church as a trustee, Sunday school teacher, and young matron. Sawyer is a member of i a ATPASES YA UO EPEAT She also Agency and is a co-founder of Project Success, an Ogden based organization that benefits youth. Among all her activities she finds time to coach her son’s baseball team. Sawyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrard Sawyer of Ogden: Omar represented Utah at the 1990 national convention of the NAACP in Los Angeles, California, July 8-12. The contest was sponsored by the Ogden branch of the NAACP in cooperation with the national NAACP to raise funds in support of a campaign to be used in the fight against drug and. alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancy, crime and violence, and dropping out of school and illiteracy.
