New Zion Baptist Church is celebrating our 50" Church Anniversary and Spring Revival as “The Church Built By Faith!” What better way to commemorate this wonderful blessing than to extend an invitation to you and your congregation to join with us to celebrate this momentous occasion. We have prayerfully selected the theme, “A Congregation Standing in the Name of the Lord” and have chosen a scripture text of Ephesians 6:14 to anchor and strengthen us. Our celebration guest speaker will be Reverend Rose L. Charley who hails from Faith Fellowship Community Church in Sacramento, CA. Our revival service dates are Wednesday, March 31, 2004, through Friday, April 2, 2004 with services beginning at 7:00 p.m. nightly. We will culminate our Silver Anniversary and Revival with a spirit-filled service to be held on Palm Sunday, April 4, 2004, at 3:30 p.m. During the past 50 years, New Zion is most keenly aware that God’s divine love, grace, and favor have been abundantly manifested in our church family and enabled us to stand as a light in the community these many years. As we look toward the future, we know there is much work still to do to bring the good news of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ to those in darkness and thus, we have our charge to boldly continue on. We look forward to your joining us to praise, worship and thank the Lord for blessing us to commemorate this historic annual church event. Should you have any questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to contact Sister Verlira (Kitty) Stewart, Chairperson of our 50° " Spring Revival/Church Anniversary Committee, at the above number. “Love ye one another.” John 13:34 Theme: New Zion Baptist Church “A Congregation Standing in the Name of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:14) 50” Annual Spring Revival <& Wednesday, March 31, 2004 «8 7:00 p.m. eg ge rr re PTOCESSIONGL 00.05 adasstes ibinsees veers TOON ones ee i (All Choirs) Ra nao yas 6 RR es a Master and/or Mistress of Ceremony ........ccccceeececccess Congregational HyYMn ...cccccccccecccees “Lord Send a Revival” ......c0essccceees Congregation [Please Stand] FPPC avo keh vai aS i he WIUSICHT SCICCHIONS TA G BY oius cccces cas nwsin ee Oe gk ere re ee aes eer NEUESIOU SCLCCTION CS OIO 2) oo ccvsc cvees cccesccdetass ves sevesaees esac g Ee ee MEE POE FOP Pee er iv ik ig vcs oun s vacwe nun ete ees Deacons & Ushers oak iv cs ee eae New Zion Senior Choir INNPOGRCIION OF SUCARET 60.00.55 cccscccvccrscevascedeumie ti xtesss FTI SIO, jG os rn eas ha vin dodaci ssckosst er rere ere PTI gee ne eines Heer a per er ee Rev. On this anniversary, it is incumbent upon us to reflect, rejoice, repent and then renew our vows. As we turn the pages of the past years and recall all we have experienced as a church, our hearts are filled with praises to God for all that He has made possible. ‘Not unto us O Lord; but unto Thy name give glory.” (Psalm 115:1) How unfailing He has been in His provisions for all the needs! Yet, our hearts are sad over opportunities lost, over our lack of fuller dedication to the service of the Lord, over our failure to bring a greater impact for Him upon the souls of many around us. True repentance is ours because of what we might have accomplished in the extension of our influence as a church. Another anniversary day, however, presents us with the challenge of renewal for He who has promised to do more for us than at our beginnings is in our midst to forgive the sins and failures of the past and baptize us with power from on high as, in His mercy, we face another year of service. As this broken world has yet to see what God can accomplish through us who are completely yielded to Him, may all of us who form this church place ourselves anew upon His alter. For each of us, there is a message of warning, yet of encouragement can be found in the prayer of Moses, the man of God, who used the somewhat descriptive smile of life whether communal or personal, “We spend our years as a tale that is told.” (Psalm 90:9) Happy 50 Anniversary Pastor James of Sister Gloria Abrams Ae AR About our speaker ..... New Zion Baptist Church History The Beginning Available records indicate that in 1918 the Utah Baptist State Convention purchased a lot on Wall Avenue in Ogden, where the Congregation built the Wall Avenue Baptist Church. The church was incorporated on February 10, 1926. First Pastor On October 2, 1930, the Rev. L.A. Platt of Ontario, CA, became the first Pastor of the Wall Avenue Baptist Church. He pastured for six years. Rev. B.J. Washington was called to Pastor New Zion on April 8, 1952 and under his leadership the congregation grew into the need of a new church building. Through this effort, Wall Avenue Baptist became New Zion Baptist Church. Rev. Washington pastured at New Zion for ten years. The Church Grows Ground Breaking Services Laying of Foundation Laying of Cornerstone First Church Services Dedication Services May 16, 1954 November 1954 October 21, 1954 March 25, 1956 October 26, 1958 The anniversary of the first church service is celebrated each year on Palm Sunday in the form of Church Anniversary Services and the dedication service is celebrated each year on the 4 Sunday in October in the form of Loyalty Day Service. Souls Were Saved The largest baptism on record is the first Sunday in October 1979, during the pastorate of Rev. Dr. N.L. Liggins, when 27 converts were baptized. Present Leadership Reverend James Abrams was called to New Zion in December 1997 and New Zion continues to lift up the name of Jesus. Pastor Abrams has accepted the tremendous responsibility of becoming the shepherd of this church. He is one of God’s Knights and he wears spiritual armor. He has the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and his sermons come from the heart. He preaches God’s word with energy and zeal. He always points us to God and tells us of His love and we have continued in spiritual growth. Program Notes & Special Thoughts ..... She later moved to Sacramento, California in 1958 and was employed for 35 years with the federal government working at McClellan Air Force Base prior to her retirement. Rev. Charley was certified in “Teaching Techniques” by The Trinity School of the Bible in Sacramento. She is a licensed and ordained minister and shares her gift of ministry freely. Rose, as she is affectionately known, served for 1 % years as Interim Pastor of Faith Fellowship Community Church, located in North Highlands, California until a full time pastor was appointed. Faith Fellowship since its inaugural services on November 5, 2000 has a membership of 1100+ members. Presently, Minister Rose serves as Co-pastor of Faith Fellowship along with Senior Pastor Dr. Ronn Elmore. Prior to uniting with Faith Fellowship Community Church Rose was a member of New Testament Baptist Church from October 1973 until October 2000, under the spiritual guidance and leadership of Rev. Dr. C. Melvin Cummings. As a member of New Testament she served as Youth Director, Adult Sunday School Teacher, and a member of Choir #1, and as Spiritual Advisor to Choir #2. Upon Rose's retirement from McClellan Air Force Base, she believes that God wanted her to extend her gift of teaching with the North Highlands Community. Following the direction of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Rose organized a “Tuesday Morning Bible Study” class. This class consists of 65 individuals that reside throughout North Highlands and the surrounding community. Rev. Charley is anointed to teach as well as preach the Gospel; she has touched the lives of many people in the community by leading them to Christ. Through her prayers and anointing, many captives have been set free, and many free people have learned to rejoice in the Lord. She teaches and preaches with the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Rev. Charley travels extensively preaching, teaching, conducting seminars, and workshops on various subjects within the religious and civic circles. Additionally, she spends many hours visiting and praying for the sick, whether they are home or in the hospital. Rose is the mother grandmother of four. of four children (Kimberly, Carlos, Dale and Douglas), and the Rose’s motto is “Go Tell” and her favorite scripture is Psalm 27. She says that | am constantly reminded that | was a nobody, who met Somebody, and now | am telling everybody about this Somebody... JESUS Oy ® Having reached our Fiftieth Year at this location, an occasion such as this can only be profitable as we pause and ponder. On this anniversary, it 1s incumbent upon us to reflect, rejoice, repent and then renew our vows. Yet, our hearts are sad over opportunities lost, over our lackof fuller dedication to the service of the Lord, over our failure to bring a greater impact for Him upon the souls of many around us. True repentance is ours because of what we might have accomplished in the extension of our influence as a church. Another anniversary day, however, presents us with the challenge of renewal forHe who has promised to do more for us than at our beginnings is in our midst to forgive the sins and failures of the past and baptize us with power from on high as, in His mercy, we face another year of service. As this broken world has yet to see what God can accomplish through us who are completely yielded to Him, may all of us who form this church place ourselves anew upon His alter. For each of us, there is a message of warning, yet of encouragement can be found in the prayer of Moses, the man of God, who used the somewhat descriptive smile of life whether communal or personal, “We spend our years as a tale that is told.” (Psalm 90:9) Happy 50 Anniversary Pastor James & Sister Gloria Abrams Ae AK _ AUELLTATLPW Cth rumba Cie FT Th Tas Caw | oy, CT OCR lal i> <——/) /\1 (feew ize @ yoo fitins Sil FOV orkiek - L007 <p Co thi yg eye, eg Mire Mpg Then Meven 67 The Fas7 Jaa LHOPCLIENIE eT ASS Lited M74 67 LTE"0g a8 "ate 1 a Oh. Should you have any questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to contact Sister Verlira (Kitty) Stewart, Chairperson of our 5 0" Spring Revival/Church Anniversary Committee, at the above number. erend dames Ab¥ank KK. ew Zion Baptist Church “Love ye one another.” John 13:34 New Zion Baptist Church 2935 Lincoln Avenue Ogden, Utah 84401 (801) 392-2211 newzionut@aol.com Reverend James Abrams Pastor Deacon Kenneth Wilder Chairman of Deacons Dr. Donald Carpenter Chairman of Trustees March 9, 2004 Reverend William Beard, Pastor Bethel Missionary Baptist Church 4531 South 250 West Ogden, Utah 84405 Dear Pastor Beard and Congregation, Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
