Fields, President March 18, 2016 Rev. Carey E. McCall, Ill, Pastor New Zion Baptist Church 2935 Lincoln Avenue Ogden, Utah 84401 Dear Rev. McCall and Congregation, On behalf of the officers and members of the Intermountain General Baptist Convention, Inc., | express with great joy and honor congratulations on the observance of your 90" Church Anniversary. New Zion Baptist Church has long served as a beacon of Christian light and hope in the Ogden community and throughout the state of Utah. Your dedicated and continual service within our Convention these many years has been equally exceptional. Numerous New Zion members have demonstrated faithfulness, commitment and anointed service as auxiliary officers, special project leaders, Christian education instructors, proclaimers of the gospel, staunch supporters and the like. Your continual willingness to avail yourselves to host countless Convention meetings, worship services and special events has not gone unnoticed and is greatly appreciated. Your servant spirit has been instrumental in the effectiveness of the Convention to be a viable source of Christian education, spiritual growth and equipping saints to boldly share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As you and the congregation of New Zion Baptist Church commemorate this historic milestone, | and the officers of the IGBC extend praise and thanksgiving to the Lord for His gracious allowance of your humble, yet steadfast resolve to be a ministry of excellence and exalt the name of His Son and our savior Jesus Christ. May we continue as co-laborers in God’s Kingdom to “Grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.” To God be the glory for your observance of this momentous occasion. Because Christ Lives, Rev. Harold O. Fields, President Intermountain General Baptist Convention, Inc. P.O. Box 2594 % Salt Lake City, Utah 84110 # (801) 595-0028 “Lift Every Voice and Sing” Lift ev'ry voice and sing, Till earth and heaven ring. Ring with the harmonies of Liberty; Let our rejoicing rise, High as the list'ning skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on till victory is won. Stony the road we trod, Bitter the chast'ning rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died: Yet with a steady beat, Have not our weary feet, Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered, We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered, Out from the gloomy past, Till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star Is cast. God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who has brought us thus far on the way; Thou who has by Thy might, Led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee, Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee, Shadowed beneath thy hand, May we forever stand, True to our God, True to our native land. From Our First Family ... What an honor and privilege it is to be given the opportunity to express our profound joy during the occasion of the New Zion Baptist Church of Ogden, Utah celebration of 90 years in Christian Ministry. Anytime God grants moments to pause and reflect on the journey He has offered the saints to travel should be viewed as precious. Not many are blessed to celebrate in this manner. Furthermore, not many achieve the milestone of crossing through many decades. God has allowed this pillar called New Zion to stand down through the years. Beloved, as each of you reflects on days gone by and the experiences you've shared; might it bring the level of joy that's shared in one of our cultural songs, "How I Got Over, How I Got Over, You Know My Soul Looks Back And Wonders How I Got Over." The Apostle Paul brings each of us future hope in | Corinthians 2:9-10, "But as it 1s written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God." In the vernacular of Paul, as Christ Chief Servant I along with Lady Phyllis, Brother Bijan and Sister Afton McCall salute the accomplishments of the Team New Zion and all of her disciples. It is the hope found in Christ that we will be a community where Counts. ” Blessings, Con & ACC Qt Pastor Carey E. McCall, III, M.Div. She began a Sunday School with one quarter and the Bible. In August 1930, Bro. and Sis. Neal came to Ogden and became affiliated with the church. Upon a suggestion from the Neal's, Wall Avenue Baptist Church extended a call to its first pastor, Rev. L. A. Platt. According to church archives, Rev. As the membership outgrew the Wall Avenue Baptist Church, the second prayer was answered and the congregation was blessed to acquire a new edifice located at 2935 Lincoln Avenue in Ogden, which it currently remains. The ground breaking services were held on Sunday, May 16, 1954. The foundation was laid in November 1954 and the cornerstone was placed on October 31, 1955. This structure was dedicated on October 26, 1958. There were several proposed names for the new construction. The church approved the proposal submitted by the late Sis. Jimmie L. Michelle Dockery Boyer as the first female ever to be licensed as a Reverend at New Zion on May 15, 2004. Rev. Abrams was the Under Shepherd until his resignation on May 31, 2004 and he returned to Sacramento, CA. With the acceptance of the call, Rev. Derrel A. Pastor McCall accepted the tremendous calling and delivered the Word on Sunday, November 25, 2012. Since the arrival of Pastor, First Lady Phyllis McCall and family, we have seen the Lords grace and mercy with many who have acknowledged Jesus the Christ as their Lord and Savior, spiritual training, re-activation and creation of new ministries to name a few. On March 29, 2014, Pastor McCall ordained as Deacon, Deacon Thomas M. White and ordained Rev. Stanley L. Ellington and Rev. Lillie Blakeley Holman as Reverends on May 3, 2014. In January 2016 we've adopted the “Team New Zion: Pillars of Leadership having Commitment, Conviction, Competency and Character’ as a dictum. As we commemorate on Palm Sunday, March 20, 2016, 90-years of standing as a beacon of light in this community and through Gods anointing and under the Leadership of Rev. McCall, we are pressing towards the future (however, not forgetting our past) endeavors to go forth as it states in our church mission to be “A Ministry Where Everyone Counts” [Ephesians 4:4] and our church vision for We are a church whose aim is to Disciple people through the Holy Scriptures, Our Words, and Our Conduct as we grow towards Christian Maturity.
