I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word. Thy hands have made me and fash- ioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart. It has to do with a singleness in purpose and unity within the body of Christ. Jesus prayed for unity within the body. The Psalmist reminds us of the importance of the people of God to maintain unity... "behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity". (Psalm 133:1) This will help convince the world that Jesus was sent from God...that is, our unity helps in convincing the world of the work of Christ. -When the world sees disharmony and discord within the body of Christ, we are sending a negative message to the world. -Jesus said that others will know that we are His disciples if we have love One for another (John 13:34-35); Paul said that we are Laborers together with God (1 Cor 3:9). There are reasons why Oneness is difficult to achieve. -We underestimate the power of Satan. Jesus prayed that Believers would be protected from the evil one. The evil one is Satan and he is seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). - We fail to realize or understand that we are involved in Spiritual warfare...not against flesh and blood, but against Spiritual wickedness in high places. Satan tries to destroy the work of Christ. We must understand that the true call to Salvation and Christian service is not a "playground"; rather it is a ‘battleground". Therefore we must put on the whole armour of God (Eph 6:11-12). - We fail to comprehend that Satan does not want unity to prevail. Therefore he will go to any extreme to ensure that there is disharmony, disruption, discord, and dissatisfaction. It is important to remember that God’s work is least likely to move forward where there is a constant state of disunity. Some Ways of Achieving Unity - We must have the Divine word of God at the center of all of our ministries within the local church. Too often we attempt to engage in Christian Service, but do not have nor seek a basic understanding of God’s word. God’s word is truth God’s word is needed as a guide We must hide the Word in our hearts and make it a light unto our feet. - We must have a Divine Walk. This has to do with a separation (but not isolation) from the world. Our life style must be changed. - We must become a Divine Witness...Jesus said "ye shall be my witness" (Acts 1:8). When witnessing becomes priority, it is more difficult for Satan to disrupt. It is a fact that few disagreements have arisen over Soul winning. We must tell others about Jesus. The more that we tell about the Love of Christ and what He means to us, the more others will see the Love of Christ manifested within us. As we spend more time telling about Jesus, we will spend less time finding fault in insignificant matters. -Rev. What Mission Action Is Mission Action Is... the organized effort of a church to minister and to witness to persons of special need or circumstance who, without this special effort, are often bypassed in the church’s direct outreach activities. Mission Action Is... taking Christian love into all situations of need; into all places where persons are victims of their own weakness and sin, or where they are victims of society’s indifference and complexity. Mission Action Is... the work of dedicated Christians who expand their narrow circle of concern and become involved in meeting the crucial needs of persons in the name of Jesus Christ. Mission Action Is... love in action. Gem Thought Christ’s followers have been redeemed for service. Our Lord teaches that the true object of life is ministry. Christ himself was a worker and all His followers, He gives the law of service; service to God and to His fellowman. This law of service becomes the connecting link which binds us to God and to our fellowman. -NBC Womens’ Auxiliary NEW ZION [ (_ SUNDAY I | MONDAY ft y BAPTIS FEBRUAF TUESDAY I | WEDNE Groundhog’: Mid-We Servic 12 > + | Sunday School 9:30 AM Baptism/Morning Worship/Lord's Supper - 11:00 + | wae be , Worship Laymen & Mission Evening Worshi 9:30 . For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him. Truly, truly, | say to you, he who hears My word and believes Him who sent passed from Me, has eternal life; he does into judgment, death to life. but has not come My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: and | give has given them to Me, them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. This is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who has not the Son of God has not life. I write this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. THE SUNDAY SCHOOL December 12, 1993 Lesson Subject: "Yielding to God’s Will” Scripture Lesson Text: Luke 1:26-38 Time: About 6-5 B.C. Place: Nazareth Golden Text: "Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word." (Luke 1:38) Today’s Aim Facts: to examine the dialogue between Gabriel and Mary. Principle: to stress the importance of submission and faith in the believer’s life. Application: to encourage the believer to submit to and believe God’s personal promises to the believer. Practical Points 1. The ministry of angels, like that of Christians, is to do the bidding of God (Luke 1:26-27). 2. We are highly honored when God chooses us for service (vv 28-29). | 3. We need not be fearful when we are in God’s will (v. 30). 4. It is not always possible to comprehend the magnitude of God’s plans or how we fit into them. The ministry of the Holy Spirit is crucial to God’s will being accomplished (vv31-35). 5. We must continually remember that God is the Lord of miracles and that His plans will overcome obstacles. It is always proper to submit oneself in humble obedience to the leading of the Lord (vv 36-38). AGE GROUP EMPHASIS Children. Saying yes to God is the main focus of this lesson. We Say yes when we choose to obey His commandments,(when we obey and do what the Bible says we should do). Sometimes we may be afraid or lonely. These feelings can be overcome when we know that God is with us, and He is always with us when we obey Him. Youths. Many Christian teens want to say yes to God but may wonder how God’s will is discovered. Mary’s example suggests that we should first develop godly character and obey His commands. Then we will be ready to respond to greater opportunities as they come along. | Adults. Mary was called to a special role in a miraculous event. Mary’s example of obedience applies to the common events of everyday life as well. As we pursue godliness in life’s ordinary tasks, other doors for service may open. Consider the angel’s words of comfort which offer help for the anxiety and despair that afflict many of us. KEEP THESE TRUTHS IN MIND 1. The focus is not on Mary’s deserving to bear the Christ Child but rather on God’s grace in allowing her to bear the Christ Child. No one deserves the special favors of God. He simply imparts them out of His love and always in keeping with His prophetic Word. 2. Mary was told that Jesus would be given "the throne of his father David (Luke 1:32). That connected Jesus through her lineage to the throne rights promised in the Davidic covenant (II Sam. 7:12-16). 3. The doctrine that Jesus was virginally conceived is very difficult for some people to accept. Its importance, however, was underscored by Luke, who made it clear that the very identity of the Saviour depended on His virginal conception (Luke 1:35).
