Brock & Sis. Campbell) Women of the Word Reflections As we observe the state of the world today it's challenging to discern where, in whom or what we can confidently place our trust. There are a number of people, places and things in which we can place our trust. It should be known that our trust is one of the most precious gifts we possess. It is also one of the most fragile gifts we possess as well. It is something that does not instantly manifest or develops overnight. Genuine trust comes to fruition over a period of time. Once established, trust opens us to experience and receive either the best and/or the worst of in whom, what or where we've placed it. It's insightful that when we examine the word, “trust,” we find the word “faith” as a synonym for it. As a Women of the Word, in whom, what or where are we placing the priceless gift of our trust in? Or better yet, can we be trusted and in particular, can we be women that God can trust? Take a few moments to ponder that inquiry in your mind. Is it your heart's desire to be a woman that God can trust? Can you be trusted with the living word of God; to share it boldly, honestly and compassionately? Can you exercise the discipline to consistently study, pray and fellowship with the Lord? Can you be trusted to avail yourself, at the prompting of the Holy Spirit, to go where others may not desire or be afraid to? Will you embrace the woman snared by drugs whose eyes you look into and see pain, hopelessness and the desperate desire to be set free? Can God trust you to comfort the woman and her family who have experienced the loss of a loved one to war, suicide, disease, or domestic violence? Can you be trusted by God to give your last few dollars to someone who is in need or even to someone who does not readily appear to be in need solely because the Holy Spirit is leading you to do so? As Women of the Word, | pray the essence of our hearts earnestly desires to be women that God can trust. Think of the glorious honor bestowed upon us by our sovereign Lord to trust us as His divine ambassadors. When and wherever there is a need in the earth, all He need do is direct the Holy Spirit to prompt us to action; and we, in turn, in humble submission and complete obedience come forward to serve. To be one among this humble number of servants is what enables us to enjoy life as promised by Jesus Christ in John 10:10(b): “l am come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.” Our lives, as Women of the Word, become joyous and fruitful when we purpose to live as Christians trusted by God. Please don’t get it twisted ... this does not mean that all will be perfect in our lives. We will experience trials and triumphs. However, as trusted daughters of the Lord, we can rest in His promises, experience His peace, worship and praise in His presence, and be light in dark places offering hope, assurance and the opportunity for salvation to all who would receive it. You see, a wonderful exchange occurs when we purpose in our hearts to be women God can trust. We exchange our desires to align themselves with His desires. We come to realize the depth of our love for the Lord and, in exchange, He reveals more of His unconditional love to us. Ultimately, we are better equipped to exchange the grace and mercy of God we've received with others, even on occasions when we may experience persecution, rejection and ridicule. As | get ready to take my seat, | pose the question to you once more: “Are you a Woman of the Word who God can trust?” If your answer is “yes,” praise God! If your answer is “no” or you're “Not sure,” praise God! Why, because the initial step to answering “yes” is to decide in your heart who you are and whose you are. Beard Sis. Beard was born in Baltimore, Maryland where she attended the public school system. She surrendered her life to Christ and was baptized at 17 years of age. After high school Sis. Beard earned a Bachelors of Science degree from Coppin State College where she met and married William Beard. She taught in the Maryland public school system in the field of Severe Intellectual Dysfunctions for five years. The Beards moved to Ogden, Utah in 1976. Sis. Beard earned Graduate degrees from Weber State University and Utah State University. Campbell) Pastor Bridgette Waters Pastor Bridgette Waters was born on December 30, 1961 in Jacksonville, Fl where she and her two siblings were raised by their loving mother. She received her Business degree from Edward Waters College in December 1989 in Jacksonville, FL. She is married to Floyd Waters, Jr. and recently celebrated their 20 year anniversary. They have 3 children they raised with a host of children that they have taken under their wings and proud grandparents of 11 wonderful little blessings. In 1995 she and her family moved to Utah. While standing in her kitchen she accepted the calling that God has placed on her life to Preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She was both licensed in 1998 and ordained in 2000 under the leadership of Pastor Corey J. Hodges at New Pilgrim Baptist Church, Salt Lake City, UT. She is the Assistant Pastor at New Pilgrim Baptist Church where she is a faithful servant of God. She is a mighty prayer warrior, worker and deliverer of God's word. Pastor Waters is well known for her ushering into worship with her starting out saying "Praise the Lord Everybody" and ending with "Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah" “Women of the Word” There are so many things this world considers to be unachievable heights and feats in this day and time. If one ascends to the highest level of government, such as our first Black leader of the United States, President Barack Obama, it’s considered an unprecedented achievement. If you happen to be the first member of your family to obtain a high school, college, or even a doctorate degree, it’s quite a lofty achievement. If one rises to stardom in Hollywood, or notoriety as a music mogul or sports personality from an obscure place, it's considered an outstanding achievement. And quite frankly, all of the aforementioned are indeed great achievements worthy of recognition. However, should one aspire to be acknowledged as a “Woman of the Word,” they have most assuredly sought after a humble and honorable achievement. This one such aspiration not only distinctly sets them apart from many others in this temporal world but has far reaching eternal recognition as well. So just what does a “Woman of the Word” resemble? | applaud you for asking such an insightful question! A “Woman of the Word” firsts admits to herself and her God that she began life as a sinner. Please don’t be stunned with this admission; it's liken to normal body functions like, breathing, being tired, hungry, sleepy, angry, etc. We all were birthed into this world in that same like manner! Just think about it, one of the first things done by those who have achieved great things was to understand and acknowledge their beginning state. And so it is with a “Woman of the Word.” Following this life changing admission, an awesome journey of discovery, both naturally and spiritually, begins. A sincere “Woman of the Word” will submit to the transformation of the truth of God’s Word as seen in Romans 12:1-2. She will be sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit as He reveals to her how she is to present her body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God. She quickly embraces what must be done to renew her mind. She trusts and understands that she may have to separate from friends and sometimes family who are detrimental to her walk with the Lord. She comes to realize that some of the places she used to frequent and things she used to do are no longer compatible with her lifestyle as a “Woman of the Word.” She yields herself in compliance to the truth of the Word that reveals she must allow Jesus Christ not only to be her Savior but Lord in all areas of her life. For example, she will cheerfully tithe and graciously give offerings. She may oftentimes sacrifice her personal desires and needs to meet the needs of others, trusting and believing God’s Word for her wellbeing. Personal experience as a “Woman of the Word” has taught her the lifestyle she’s chosen is a life long process and there's nothing ‘instant” about it. There will be “no perfect days” where she gets everything right but the unconditional love, faithfulness, patience and assurance she has come to rely upon as a “Woman of the Word” covers her like a priceless, beautiful garment and serves to anchor her in trials and triumphs. she is so humbly thankful for salvation freely given her as a gift from her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She knows in the deepest depths of her heart this priceless gift is the source of her joy, peace and purpose. That's why desiring acknowledgement as a “Woman of the Word” has preeminence in her life. It is her sole aspiration to reveal the light of Jesus Christ within her daily ... In her actions, thoughts and deeds. Not for her glory but His! When opportunities present themselves to boldly share truth of the gospel, she becomes excited seizing the change to impart God's truth within her ... she may even do so without saying a word. She visualizes herself as a flowing river, not a reservoir; understanding the more she avails herself to be poured into, the more she can impart, especially to those who possess a genuine thirst to better understand the truth of God’s Word.
