Description Integrating the arts, through song and movement, can benefit student learning and engagement. Students can develop cognitive skills that enhance learning and student achievement. Arts integration also encourages student engagement by making learning personal and meaningful. Movement and song help engage students' minds and bodies to be actively engaged in their learning. Because of the focus on tested subjects, the arts are often given less prominence in schools. Research shows that teachers feel pressure to teach tested subjects, feel short for time, and often feel lacking in their skills and confidence to teach and integrate the arts. Additional resources for teachers are needed to effectively integrate the arts to feel supported in their efforts.
