(BHP). A generous gift from the William H. & Mattie Wattis Harris Foundation assisted in processing and preserving this extensive collection, and in underwriting the symposium. * * * * The Utah Construction Company incorporated in Ogden in 1900, with Thomas D. Dee as presi¬dent and a principal stockholder, along with David Eccles, Edmund O. Wattis, William H. Wattis, Warren L. Wattis, and Marie D. Wattis. The company's early railway projects expanded into dam construction, including a major partnership with Six Companies to build the $55 million Hoover Dam. In 1944, Utah Construction acquired its first mine, and mining became a major enterprise. Projects further diversified to include residential and commercial construction and spread to 13 countries on five continents. In 1971, Utah Construction & Mining became Utah International, Inc., which merged with General Electric in 1976, but continued to operate as an individual entity until purchased in 1984 by BHP. * * * * To view selected photographs and documents from the Utah Construction/Utah International Collection, visit our website. http//: library.weber.edu/ucc President Paul H.
