Dee, David Eccles, and brothers Edmund O., William H., and Warren L. Wattis were poised to do great things. Just eight days after the turn of the century, these five entrepreneurs founded the Utah Construction Company. It was an opportunity seized. It was their chance to "work hard at work worth doing." It was the beginning of an era. 2007 UTAH INTERNATIONAL CENTER FELLOWS Dr. Thomas Alexander, Dr. Stan Layton,John Sillito and Dr. Becky Johns 2006 UTAH INTERNATIONAL CENTER FELLOWS Dr. Susan Matt and Dr. Stephen Francis In October 1999, the late Edmund Wattis Littlefield and Broken Hill Proprietary, Ltd. donated the Utah Construction/Utah International Collection to the Stewart Library Special Collections. The company archives contain more than 300 boxes of minutes, financial records, correspondence, scrapbooks and project reports, and more than half a million photographs. In These Pictures: 1. Thursday, Oct. 18,2007 CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST & EXHIBIT 9 a.m. "Utah and the Western Pacific Railroad" Presented by WSU visual arts students, this photographic exhibit retraces historical points of interest along the Western Pacific Railroad, specifically in the Feather River Gorge area. The continental breakfast and the presentations will be held in the Hetzel-Hoellein Room, located in the Stewart Library Special Collections area. The photographic exhibit will be displayed throughout the library. Dee: Founder, Builder, Public Servant" John Sillito, Professor and Curator of Special Collections, WSU INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH IN THE UTAH CONSTRUCTION COLLECTION 3-4 p.m. Library staff will be available in the Thomas D. Dee Reading Room to assist symposium attendees with their research in the Utah Construction/Utah International Collection. The reading room is located in the Special Collections area of the library.
