010_POW Camp Art Work III

Title 010_POW Camp Art Work III
Description A collection of photographs and oral history quotes that document the history of the Prisoner of War camp at Defense Depot Ogden that opened in 1943 and closed in 1946. The oral histories were conducted with widows of German and Italian POWs, former guards, and community members that worked with the POWs.
Image Captions We used to get all kinds of nice things from the prisoners. They used to send me gifts. Gene would bring home all kinds of beautiful flowers-they would raiser flowers; they had a greenhouse. They had prisoners that worked in carpentry. They had prisoners that were artists. Some of them were able to do their own thing that way. I've got some paintings that one prisoner made for me. I paid a carton of cigarettes for each painting. And we also had a coffee table and a little hexagon end table. -Gene and Allie Lawler
