011_POW Camp Auditorium

Title 011_POW Camp Auditorium
Description A collection of photographs and oral history quotes that document the history of the Prisoner of War camp at Defense Depot Ogden that opened in 1943 and closed in 1946. The oral histories were conducted with widows of German and Italian POWs, former guards, and community members that worked with the POWs.
Image Captions I went out to camp and of course he didn't expect me. When I got out to the guard camp, they asked who I wanted to see. They called him. They were all there in the auditorium. He came up to the guard shack and got me. We went back to the auditorium and it was packed. But they all moved around so we had a seat there. Someone from behind said, "Hey Giusep, who's the gal?" He said, "She's going to be my wife." That was the start of it. -Cleone Battisti
