Pistol Have fitted a new barrel to the locked pistol, with the chamber and rifling the same as in the Luger drawings sent to us by Vickers. The veloeity with the new barrel is better than with the old, and I think it is because the chamber is shorter. As you know, the rifling in the Luger barrel has more twist than the one which of tue Srd, you old rifled barrel for and our the pistol. We have done considerable new one, with conical bullet, and firing with oval shaped the ones, at ranges of 50 meters and 50 meters, and there is not the slightest noticeable difference in the accuracy. The ammunition we are getting is a German war product and very much less uniform in size than the U.M.C. Sometimes we @et a cartridge which will not go freely into the chamber of either the old or new barrel, and I have already lappéd Out the chamber of the old barrel to make it slightly larger. In such cases the slide will not close, but that is the only trouble I have had so far with the functioning. Not a bit of trouble from Bailures to eject. I found that the shell could get up go high in the face of the breech block that the ejector could pass under it without touching it, and that may or may not have been the reason for the trouble out there. Mou know there is quite a bit of they blame everthing cannot tell whether wobble in the front end of the breech bolt. I have got to fix up something for the Belgians so as to give them a different cartridge from the Luger. They want a pistol for trials by the end of June. 22 Repeater. If the extractor spring is made Stronger, the cartridge feeds up in to place hard. The extractor springs we are using are stronger than the one in the model, however. There is one thing about which I am not right sure. That is, the Space between the barrel and the block for the cartridge head when the rifle is closed ready for firing.
