They sing out of their great love for music, since only a few of the singers are on scholarship, and only one hour credit per year is given for choir participation. The Bishop College Concert Choir, as it is best known, has a wide and varied repertoire in addition to the scheduled concert music. Each year they perform such major works as Handel’s Messiah, Verdi’s Requiem, Elijah by Mendelssohn, the Ordering of Moses by Dett, excerpts from various operas, and other works of like magnitude. The group is widely traveled with concert appearances in most of the major cities of the nation. Each year a costal tour is made by the choir, which means radio and television appearances in many of the cities where concerts are given. These tours are of varied experiences, such as opening the Colorado State Legislature to lighter appearances such as on Truth or Consequences. Because of their impressive television appearances, Station WFAA-TV, Channel 8 in Dallas, asked the choir to tape a rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” to be used for the Station’s sign-on and sign-off daily. This started February 10, 1964. The choir was also selected by the Dallas photographer-composer, Tino Comini, in 1960 to record the Comini Spirituals, which at the time were unpublished. The choir was also seen on national television on the “Miss Tan America Pageant” which was held in Dallas on April 10, 1865. The choir director is a native ABOUT of Enid, THE Oklahoma, DIRECTOR and an honor graduate of Langston University at Langston, Oklahoma, where he received the bachelor degree after only three years of study. He holds the Masters degree in music from the University of Kansas at Lawrence, and is presently working toward the Ph.D. Degree at North Texas State University. He is associate Professor of Music at Bishop College where he has been a member of the faculty since 1956. ABOUT THE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE This fine young artist is a graduate of Bishop College and Indiana University with a Master of Fine Arts in Voice and Opera. She was soloist with the Bishop College Choir for four years. At Indiana University she was soloist for the world premier performance of “The Darkened City,” as well as numerous other operatic, oratorio, and solo appearances. Miss Hebert is a native of Bay City, Texas. ABOUT THE ACCOMPANIST IN ARTIST Our accompanist is another fine performing member of the Bishop College faculty. He is a native of Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was graduated from the University of Kansas in 1961 and 1965 with a Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees. He has given piano recitals in many of our major cities. This is an exhibition of what Christians can do when they work together under the divine leadership of God. A fullfilment of God's promise to his people, making full proof that God works through men. The work of our Church is far from being finished, but we are thankful to Almighty God, that we are here today, and by the help of God and the goodwill and cooperation of our members and friends, we shall go on until the work is done. We dare not go any further without pausing to thank Almighty God for sending us a leader, the Rev L. K. Curry Which we appreciate very much. Since time began, God has Tr always provided great leaders for his people, We read in the bible where God provided Moses, a leader in his day For all indication God has provided for the New Zion Baptist Church with a great leader Rey.
