Show 4 - Q. Could you tell me of some recent fields you've gotten into that were located by strategic planning? A. Examples: In the commercial industrial financing field, construction equipment financing field has become substantial. Four or five years ago into the over-the-road trucking field. Significant. The leasing field, as mentioned...airlines very strong. Ocean-going vessels. In the early '70's we entered the information systems data processing field and we now have a considerable investment. In commercial home financing...we now offer both accounts-receivable financing and inventory financing to American industry broadly. Just a few examples, say, over the past 15 years. In consumer, we've entered recreation and leisure products, for example, motor homes and yachts. Constantly into new areas. Q. Have you always been with GECC? A. Joined GECC right after graduating from Harvard College in 1947. Q. Is there much movement back and forth to parent company? A. Yes. Q. Other than through the Board, how do you stay in tune with the parent company? A. Each month I have a meeting with Stan Gault and counterparts in consumer sector. We give reports on latest developments. We're unusual in being in both consumer and commercial and industrial financing. Now the latter is equivalent in size to consumer. Q. Your size is very impressive. A. Yes, we're a large financial institution in our own right. Q. How do people know they can come to you... say, in financing yachts? A. We have a sizable sales force...advertising. Q. You said you're in the insurance business. Is this a recent thing? A. Entered both the casualty and property and life insurance in early 70's. They've had excellent growth. I could get you numbers. Of course, the base was very small. Q. You own the companies? A. Yes. Puritan Insurance Co. and Puritan Life Insurance Co. |
