Show Enhancing Nurse Self-Efficacy When Reassigned to be Telemetry Technicians BACKGROUND Ethan Young, BSN, RN, MSN Student Anne Kendrick, DNP, RN, CNE Bonnie Leman, MSN, RN INTERVENTIONS • This project aims to increase nurse self-efficacy when reassigned to be telemetry technicians. A 30-minute training was created for nurses reassigned to the telemetry technician role. A question-andanswer session is planned for the conclusion of the training. • Nurses may be reassigned to telemetry monitoring but often feel unprepared in the role. • Step 1: Pre-survey was created to assess nurses’ self-confidence if assigned to the role of telemetry technician. • Errors in telemetry monitoring, including missed arrythmias or delayed response to alarms, are associated with a lack of training.1 • This education gap affects nurses. Nurses often feel overwhelmed by responsibilities they are not fully trained for.2,3 • This project highlights the need for role-specific training to improve patient outcomes and nurse self-efficacy.4,5 METHODS • Step 2: A training was created discussing the processes, responsibilities, and protocols for telemetry monitoring. • Step 3: Post-survey was created to assess growth in nurse self-confidence after being trained. • Step 4: Essential information was included in a printed guide to be available for nurses when reassigned. IMPACTS • Patients are safer with adequately trained staff monitoring their heart rhythms.1 Deliverables: • Nurses can experience less burnout when they feel adequately trained for their job responsibilities.3 • A 0-5 Likert scale pre-survey will assess confidence before the training. • Nurses' knowledge of cardiac rhythms can increase with experience in telemetry monitoring.4 • A training was created to review the processes, responsibilities, and protocols for telemetry technicians. • Formal, standardized training can ensure nurses receive evidence-based training. • Participants will complete a post-survey to assess growth after the intervention. • More nurses trained in telemetry monitoring can aid in staffing flexibility. Image 1 • A reference guide was created with the essential information for use during and after implementation. CONCLUSIONS Kurt Lewin’s Change Management Model is the framework for implementation. • Nurses who receive more role-specific orientation can be more confident when reassigned as telemetry technicians. REFERENCES • Patients may receive better, more competent care when nurses receive more training. 1Sandau K. E., Funk, M., Auerbach, A., Barsness, G. W., Blum, K., Cvach, M., Lampert, R., May, J.
