West, Jr. ART ADVISER Farrell Collett Editorial THERE exists in the world today two conflicting ideologies which govern the actions of every society. The one evolves about the sciences, the politics, the inventions, and the struggles of men. The other intwines within its realms the arts music, drama, and literature. In order for any society to continue to exist and advance, these two ideologies must go forward, hand in hand, or as two evenly matched horses pulling on a wagon. But in this world today, the horse of science has far out pulled the horse of culture, causing the wheels on the wagon of world affairs to spin in a dizzy circle. We, the students of Weber College, realize that this powerful horse must not be allowed to drag the smaller horse around this maddened orbit until it slips beneath the slashing wheels of human foolishness. We fully value the worth of cultural and beautiful things, especially during an interim when most of the outside world has lost theirs in a maze of international strife. Because of this, Weber College will continue to edit her three publications Acorn, Scribulus, and Signpost. But in order that our cultural activities might go hand in hand with our defense work and activities, we wish to dedicate this issue of Scribulus to those fellow country men, who are so valiantly preparing for-and defending our land. The Editor. SCRIBULUS, magazine of contemporary arts and letters, published quarterly by the Associated Students of Weber College, Ogden, Utah. Winter, 1942.
