Show THE LABORATORY 12 EIGHTEENTH ANNUAL REPORT BUILDING. The Academy building is located on Jefferson Avenue, opposite Lester Park. It is two stories in height, and is sufficiently large to accommodate three hundred students. The rooms are large and well lighted, and are provided with steam heat, electric lights and all the necessary appliances. The first floor is occupied by the Principal's office, the Commercial and the Preparatory Departments, the Physical and Chemical Laboratories, and the Domestic Arts Department. The Art Gallery, Library, Assembly Hall, and several recitation rooms, occupy the second floor. LIBRARY. The Library is a neatly furnished and well-lighted room adjoining the Assembly Hall. The shelves contain a number of valuable works of literature, theology, history and science, and the tables are supplied with the leading newspapers and magazines. During the past year some general books have been added by purchase, besides which some of the classes have taken up the work of collecting books on special subjects. The Book of Mormon class has been gathering works on American archaeology; the class of '03 has been working on the Theological library; and the Pedagogy and Kindergarten classes have each contributed to their special libraries. APPARATUS. The Academy is fairly well equipped with physical apparatus to illustrate the prescribed courses. The more import-ant items are a Wimhurst electrical machine, a Becker Analytical Balance with weights of precision, Ruhmkorff coil, moveable coils, electric motor, Wheatstone bridge, rheostat, Geissler tubes, lifting and force pumps, adjustable inclined plane, galvanometer, electro-magnet, sonometer, lenses, chemical thermometers, a variety of primary batteries, and a set of apparatus for students use in the Laboratory. |
