Show FERRON LOSSEE Intramural Supervisor EUGENE JOHNSON Intramural Manager INTRAMURALS With an expanded curriculum this year's intramural program progressed with singular success. More extensive participation carried inter-club competition to a new peak. A deciding factor in this success was undoubtedly the competent supervision of Director Ferron Losee, Student Manager Eugene Johnson, and Secretary Darrell Deis. * In addition, awards, consisting of a silver loving cup for the best team performance and a gold medal for the best individual performance, spurred on the contestants. Ten social and scholastic Weber College organizations participated: Excelsior, Phoenix, Frenisti, Lettermen, Engineers, Ghosts, Skulls, Faculty, Sigma Delta Pi, and T.I.C. (Trade-Industrial Club). BOXING: Leaving no doubt as to who held fistic honors of Weber College, the Excelsior Dark Horses decisively conquered all comers to lead their nearest rivals 75 to 10. BASKETBALL: Once again achieving preeminence. Excelsior led the field in the bitterly fought basketball tournament. Close at their heels were bunched T.I.C, Phoenix, Lettermen. Excelsior, in doing so, became marked as the club to beat. PING-PONG: Although a strong Lettermen team captured the doubles championship, persevering Jacob Weese went on to win the singles championship for Frenisti, which club gained top honors in the final compilation. WRESTLING: As did Excelsior in boxing, so did the Lettermen in wrestling. Final tally revealed a lead of 65 points over the nearest opponent. SOFTBALL: The Lettermen monopolized the Fall Quarter softball honors with their fighting spirit and practiced skill. Their 225 points overshadowed the 160 points of Excelsior, their nearest rival. SWIMMING: After the last ripple subsided, the Skulls emerged as having garnered the majority of points from the ten water events. Thus they splashed their way ahead of Excelsior, scoring 157 points to the second place winner's total of 103. SQUASH: A faculty team demonstrated unbelievable physical prowess, commonly unsuspected, and won the paddle squash doubles tournament and finally wound up ahead of Phoenix, who took the singles competition. WINTER CARNIVAL: The boys of Excelsior, digging themselves out of snowbanks and snow out of their ears, went on to place first in the snow sport events of a most successful Winter Carnival. T.I.C. placed second. A carefree student body out on excursion cheered the winners. VOLLEY-BALL: A strong Phoenix sextette conquered T.I.C. in the final round of play to attain volley-ball superiority. Success came to them only after three close and spirited battles. Significant was Phoenix team cooperation. WATER BASEBALL: The Lettermen triumphed after keen competition in this new sport. .... Horseshoes .... Tennis |
