Show Bowen Stettler DEBATE TEAMS Williams Wade Lund Manfull Reeves Light DEBATE TEAMS Burton Benson STOCKTON DEBATE TOURNAMENT: At the Stockton Debate Tournament, which was held at Stockton, California, on February 9-10-11, Weber College was well represented. Blair Burton, Howard Coray, Raulston Zundel, and Charles Letz participated in the men's debate division, and La Moain Suttlemyre competed in extemporaneous and oratorical contests. Burton and Coray won four out of six debates, and Suttlemyre reached the finals in oratory. NATIONAL PHI RHO PI DEBATE TOURNAMENT: Weber College made an excellent showing at the National Phi Rho Pi Debate Tournament, which was held at Virginia, Minnesota, April 3-4-5. Those participating in the debate were Raulson Zundel, Blair Burton, Barbara Reeve, and Charles Letz. Morton Fuller entered the extemporaneous speaking contests. Zundel and Burton tied for fifth place in the men's debate division, and Burton won second place in individual debating. UTAH-IDAHO SPEECH TOURNAMENT. At the Utah-Idaho Speech Tournament, which was held at Cedar City, Utah, on April 6 and 7, Weber College made a good showing in debate, oratory, and extemporaneous speaking contests. Students participating in debate were: Glen Wade, Norman Bowen, Lawrence Stettler, Clyde Williams, Dee Lund, Akio Kato, Betty Jean Light, Dahrl Richards, Glen Stamos, and Clyde Wade. La Moain Suttlemyre and John Johnson entered extemporaneous and oratorical contests. JUNIOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ORATORICAL CONTEST: La Moain Suttlemyre won first place in the annual Junior Chamber of Commerce Oratorical Contest which was held at Weber College on April 14. Suttlemyre's winning oration was entitled "Safety". Other students participating in the contest were Pauline Rogers and Florence Francis. |
