Show Introduction Utah International Inc., its subsidiaries and affiliates own and operate coal, uranium, copper, iron ore and petroleum properties in the Western Hemisphere and Australia. The company is engaged in ocean shipping with vessels owned by affiliates and others which are chartered to provide a sizeable ocean shipping fleet to transport a variety of mineral resource products throughout the world. Since the company's inception at the turn of the century, the business pursuits of Utah International have changed dramatically. Once primarily an international heavy construction company, today Utah International is principally a mining company, conducting surface mining activities in many parts of the world. The company's domestic mining operations include steam coal, iron ore and uranium oxide production in the western United States. In Canada, Utah Mines Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary, operates the Island Copper mine. Ladd Petroleum Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary, produces oil and natural gas in the United States and Canada. Australian coking coal and iron ore mining operations are conducted by Utah Development Company, a 90%-owned subsidiary. Utah's principal mining affiliates are Marcona Corporation, with interests in iron ore mining in Peru and New Zealand and in ocean shipping, and Cyprus Pima Mining Company, with copper mining operations in the western United States. A vigorous exploration program spans the globe and includes such areas as the western United States, Australia, Canada, the South Pacific, Africa and Brazil, seeking new sources of minerals traditionally mined by Utah. On the following pages, the diverse product interests of Utah International are examined. 2 Distribution of Mineral Products Mineral production and sales by Utah and its subsidiaries and affiliates include steam coal, coking coal, uranium, iron ore, copper and, as by-products, saleable quantities of gold, molybdenum, silver and rhenium.
