Arnold III #6 "C" Street Petaluma, CA 94952 Dear Carl, Many many thanks for your letter of September 12 and the fascinating picture that it enclosed. It is a wonderful memento to add to the archives. I believe that there is still standing a building or two in Montello, Nevada where The Utah Construction Company had an office and a general store. The store essentially was to supply the very extensive ranch holdings that Utah operated in northeastern Nevada but being the only store for miles it sold merchandise to the general public. This carried with it credit risks. My predecessor's predecessor who was with the company from 1900 relates that he was forced to take out in his name a mortgage on the local whore house because it had become overly indebted to the company store.
