A collection of photographs and oral history quotes that document the history of the Prisoner of War camp at Defense Depot Ogden that opened in 1943 and closed in 1946. One of the questions was do you know any of these languages and I said I had one year. So that's where I went with one of my friends and we worked with Germans on the loading dock. Usually the experienced prisoners were the forklift operators. They were pretty good, some of them. But they were very tolerant with us. We were just a bunch of 15- 16 year old kids. . . . I remember my first attempt at showing off my German a little bit. I told the German forklift operator to sit the pallet on the ceiling, and they laughed and they laughed. They thought that was so funny. -Bud Elliott |
