Description This is a study about how interior design factors affect student test outcomes in computer-based testing at Weber State University. Research (Brooks, 2011) demonstrates that the physical learning environment has a significant measurable impact on learning outcomes. Researchers and educators (Stone, 2008) are calling for more research in designing educational spaces. Designing positive experiences is important because emotions affect how the cognitive system operates and aesthetics can affect the emotional state (Norman, 2004). About 900 WSU students were surveyed about their perceptions of the interior design of the testing centers and its effect on their test performance. The study showed that the majority of students perceive the design of the testing centers to be good to excellent, but they noted close proximity to others, noise, and temperature fluctuations distract during test taking. An observational interior design analysis of five testing centers at Weber State University concurred that the centers are well designed but could be improved in how space is used. An ANOVA on a randomized sample of 1000 student test scores showed no statistically significant difference in student test outcomes by testing center.
