Jan. 15, 1918 Dear Theron: Received your letter of Jan. 6 yesterday and so far have received two cigar boxes, soap, etc., and coca. Thanks a lot. Think probably the two large boxes were held at Paris. At present we are out of the line of souvenirs but expect to move in a few days, but as always don’t know the direction some say Germany and others Langy sur Ourcq near Paris. I wrote Hdgs asking for a discharge. It was returned so expect to go back to U.S. with the outfit. We now have our emblems which we wear on out left shoulder. It is for the ambulance men with the French army. Am enclosing a newspaper copy- have a copy of my second citation for the last attack. It says that I made two good cars out of three cars which had been blown up by shell fire and by then able to take care of all the wounded. This was done by St E. A. L. under the heaviest bombardment across the bridge head at Voncq, Oct. 4, 1918. Hale has painted by picture in oil and it’s a bear. Expect to send it to U.S. by Amer. Exp Co. at first opportunity. Think I wrote about the 79th Amer. Artillery passing though our town but didn’t see Kelly. We haven’t been getting any mail from U.S. at all lately. Can’t understand why. Write soon gain.
