This type of general assignment will permit the afternoon groups to be made up of persons from various morning .courses, and provide a variety of insights and experiences in each group. The general purpose of the afternoon emphasis of the Congress where there Discussion Groups is to relate the to the work which the messengers do in their churches, and to enhance their perspective and overview of the Church’s educational program. For this purpose the Resource Book and the Study Guide specially prepared for the Congress will be basic. In addition, discussion material will be culled from the Dean’s Keynote Address, the President’s Address, and the General Lectures in the morning General Assemblies. Following this brief general presentation, messengers will be assigned to smaller groups for further discussion of the material. Participation in the Ministers Wives Division is encouraged for those persons whose needs are in line with the objectives of the Division. Other persons may enroll in the regular Congress courses. Those who complete the four-year course will be awarded an advance Congress certificate from the Children’s Division of the Congress. Those receiving the certificates will be required to submit a@ written report on the teaching of children in the individual’s own local church or area of denominational responsibility, to pass an oral examination by the committee on advance certificates, and to demonstrate proficiency in the teaching of children. Those who complete the four-year course will be awarded an advance Congress certificate from the Fine Arts Division of the Congress. Those receiving the certificate will be required to submit a written report on the use of creative skills in the individual’s own church or area of denominational responsibility, to pass an oral examination by the committee on advance certificates and to demonstrate proficiency in three specific skills or one combination skill.
