Abstract |
This study examined whether explicitly teaching a supplemental reading program called; 95 Percent Multisyllable Routine in addition to the core reading curriculum McGraw Hill; Wonders will increase reading words per minute and accuracy in third grade. Students' word per; minute rate and accuracy were measured using the Acadience Oral Reading Fluency (ORF); Reading Test. An ORF pretest was given at the beginning of the year, a test was given in the; middle of the year, and a post-test was given at the end of the year. This study was implemented; in two third grade classes. Both classes were taught from McGraw Hill's Wonders curriculum.; The treatment class had their word building work from Wonders replaced by the Multisyllable; Routine from 95 Percent Group while the other class was taught just from the Wonders; curriculum. The conclusion was that the 95 Percent Multisyllable Routine helped the struggling; readers read more words, and more words accurately. |
