Hughes, Pastor New Members Class Jesus said to him, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37) Greetings from the Pastor: I welcome each of you to the New Members Class. I sincerely hope that you will engage each lesson and come away with a clearer understanding of God’s purpose for your life as a Christian. Salvation- This class is designed to help new members understand the fundamentals of the salvation process, its meaning and purpose for our fives as Christians. Spiritual Disciplines- This class is designed to introduce the new member to the spiritual disciplines of prayer, fasting, Bible study and worship. NZBC Church History and Polity- This class is designed to inform the new member about the rich heritage of the New Zion Baptist Church and tts beliefs, practices and polity. This class will also review the Baptist Church Covenant, The Articles of Faith, bylaws, and functions of the church body. Building the Church from the Inside Out- The class will study the principles of Christian Stewardship and Tithing. This class is also designed to share the Pastor’s vision of New Zion Baptist Church ministry and how new members can be active partakers of that VISION. Family and Fellowship- This is a ministry session where new members are given the opportunity to learn more about one another; receive a tour of the church facilities and meet ministry leaders from various New Zion Baptist Church Ministries. Dessert with Pastor Hughes (Fellowship Hall) - New members will talk, with Pastor Hughes and learn about his ministry experience in a question and answer session. Salvation What does the term “Salvation” mean to you? When did the process of Salvation begin? How do we know Salvation gives assurance and security to the believer? Are you a Christian? Yes, according to God’s promise. What does Conviction mean to the believer? What does Repentance mean to the believer? What does Conversion mean to the believer? Salvation What is Regeneration? What does Justification mean to the believer? What does Sanctification mean to a believer? What does Glorification mean to a believer? The Spiritual Disciplines What is prayer? Is individual prayer important for a Christian? What is corporate prayer? What is Meditation? What is Fasting? Why is Bible study important for the believer? What does Worship mean? NZBC Church History and Polity New Zion Baptist Church history and its beliefs: NZBC Bylaws review: Church Covenant overview: Articles of Faith (18): Functions of the Church body: (example) Role of church in the universal Church beginning with Inter-Mountain Baptist State Convention, the role of Pastor, Deacons, Deaconesses, Trustees, and Sextons. Two ordinances of the church: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, Sunday School, Bible Study, Food Pantry, Benevolent (Mission offering), Women’s Mission and Layman’s Ministry. Building the Church from Inside out Christian Stewardship and Tithing: Genesis 14:20 is first instance of tithing. Also cf. Genesis 28:22, Leviticus 27:30, Proverbs 3:9, Dt. 14:23, 28. A steward is one to whom a thing is committed. Malachi 3:8-10 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But ye say, wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.” 1 Corinthians 4:2 says, “Moreover, it is required in stewards, that a person be found faithful.” Luke 6:38 “Give, and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.
