For those who participate, debating provides keen competition not only in speaking but in all situations encountered during a lifetime. Debators must learn to be mentally alert in all situations and they must also learn the code of good sportsmanship and fair play. Leland H. The best debators are selected to represent the school in various meets. Weber is proud to have a chapter of Phi Rho Pi, national debate fraternity. Debators may become members after they have represented their school three limes in debate tourneys. DEBATE During the year debators took trips to California, Oregon, Colorado, and to the national Phi-Rho-Pi debate tournament in Denver. Mr. Monson was national president of Phi-Rho-Pi this year. At left, Dick Nilsson and Kaye Kilburn were two of the most outstanding debators. They took first place in the meet held at Oregon, and they are expected to do well in the meet at Denver in April. Over 800 high school speakers from Utah and surrounding slates gathered on our campus during March to participate in our high school tournament.
